Assuming that you have a super E kit and are using the SnS air cleaner, the 2 big issues for plugs turning black is accel pump and making sure that the enricher closes all the way.. This assumes the rest of the bike is OK.
OK so i have just seen your bike in the pictures section
number one when asking questions here is to tell us exactly what you have ..IE: year and model what type of mods there are as in exhaust , carb etc ..
It's a 1978 Superglide FXE. As far as mods go, i honstly couldn't tell you other than the front end, tank, carb and exhaust. With the exhaust, all I know is that something was put in the pipes to mimic baffles. Pass a cop baffle test.....
I've called what few shops I have around and none of them want to look at or mess with old motorcycles
It's sucking air, more than likely the installer didn't do the time-consuming dance getting the intake squared with the ports and the supports right to get a good seal. Happens far more than most will admit, some bikes will align without working the manifold with a file or breaking the heads loose to tweek it. Any pull on the supports will do it too. These are a solid carb, but they rarely just slap on a shovel clean and easy, installed or reworked many of them.

When I first got my bike it had a Super E on it and the wrong manifold for my heads. My heads are the O-ring style and it had the straight manifold and band seals. When I stroked it, the kit came with the carb and I got the right style intake then, with the kit.
Here are what the plugs look like. I couldn't post a pic sooner because I didn't have the tools. This is off the front cylinder. The back is no different other than it was soaked in gas as well.
It's going to be a project and that is fine. I have the service manual and just about every tool I need now. I can get others as I go.

Not just the wrong style. Lot of times they don't align evenly at the heads. Gaps or the meeting surfaces will be misaligned. Only been a few I've dealt with that ever went on without a bit of playing first. I'm overly **** about carb and pipes fit on shovels, seen so many with issues that get traced back to one of those two being the problem

I'll definitely look into the carb fitment when I get a chance.
