Potential Value of my Old Man's Harley
While you've been fortunate, this could get you 1 buck for it.
And it limits your potential buyers to very close to you on a nationwide eBay site.
I always look on eBay for a bike prices and I've never seen no reserve with a low starting bid.
Seems to me people start the bids at pretty much the value of the bike, they're not prepared to lose anything, sometimes don't even end up selling it if it doesn't reach the reserve they wanted.

he can't "clean up" dry rotted tires and brake lines, it's a safety issue, if he rides it that way he won't be thinking of dad he'll be joining him
And a top end with valves most likely open for ten yrs in a salt state, all the Kroil in town ain't gonna help those cylinders
Plus we're in an economy right now where most are watching their money so that doesn't help.
Your first response was negative and, OK, your opinion - that is what the original poster ask for. I imagine the exaggeration dime a dozen was to get your point across how worthless you thought it was - OK.
But then a couple guys react negatively to your comments calling you out on it and you have an implosion.
Jeez
Was that meant for the original poster or your two critics?
What did the original poster do to deserve that?
Do you really believe the original poster thinks it's worth more than their kids are worth? And that your dime a dozen comment was generous?
I'm told I don't get sarcasm a lot but I don't know what's going on here.
And why would you think he would ride it on ancient tires?
Is that something you've done made that mistake and believe others do too.
Again, wow.
Hyperbole much?

To the original poster.....the amount you can get for this bike is what someone will pay. I disagree with many of the guys here proclaiming this bike is worth almost nothing. Look at Facebook Marketplace, Ebay, Cycle Trader and see what similar bikes are selling for. You can't find ANY Sportster for under $2500, unless its missing a title or is truly in very bad shape. An FX Shovelhead is way more bike than a Sportster. Someone would pay $4000-$5000 for your Dads bike....I know, because I WOULD, but I already have enough projects. I know there are many that would NOT pay that much money for the bike, but that does not mean anything. Look at the price of Panheads, Knuckleheads......you can't find one undere $30,000. Old Corvettes going for $80,000. Logic does not appy to any of this. Its a matter of finding the person who WILL pay the price for your Dad's bike, which mean you need patience and advertise it across as many platforms you can. And for those that say this bike is worth nothing.......what do other bikes like this sell for across the country. I see this on forums ALL THE TIME......when questions like this are asked...the vast majority low ***** it. Not sure why, but its not a representation of the truth and the facts.
And I will add this......if anyone states that fixing this bike would cost more that its worth, and that it could be sold for.......guess what, thats almost universally true. Parts and labor cost money, and nothing is free. It ALWAYS cost more to rebuild a bike than finding one in equivalent condition....but good luck with finding that. Its not worth discussing....its just a fact.

I linked a page showing what he could get in his area that's rideable for a lot less than he'd have in to it and bikes a lot nicer with no work needed

That bike is worth something to someone. With all the issues, non numbers matching ie: motor and frame, and who know what else than the what you see. Tires, fuel tank, brakes, carb, I can go on. $1000.00 if someone offers 1500.00 take it and run.

A decent looking running, no title issues FE shovel is probably about worth 5-6k. with most sellers asking for more especially if paying for the ad.
this bike while the bones of it don’t look to bad, is not that. The title could be messy depending on the state with the swapped motor, it’s going to need tires and fluids, a battery with lots of elbow grease for clean up, just to look decent, the wheels are probably beyond saving.
The bike is definitely worth saving but someone that knows what to do and how to do it will be 1000-1500 dollar range , someone looking to ride a shovel, will just find a nice running one for the 5k.

I don't think that anyone would trade their kids for a motorcycle ... You remind me of the proverbial Bull$hit salesman with a mouthful of samples ... and I'm being nice ... Your experiences on a Sportster ( a guess as your name suggests ) has rattled your brains ... Have a great day and ride safe ":>)
