Looking at a 77 FLH. Runs, Ugly but I like that kind of Project.

I am not a mechanic, Basic stuff OK.

Honest question, Do I HAVE to be a mechanic to ride a Shovel ??

I have had luck with Iron Heads, no major issues, could I be so lucky with an FLH.??

I will make the deal in a few days and want to know what I am getting into?

$6500. down payment / the Bike. Fair Price? The guy will drive it to my garage. Then the fun begins. $$$ Wise or Stupid??

Thanks for any advise.

Paid 6K for my 84 FLH and it was stock except for a couple of small parts. Put some bucks into the top end is all. So fair price on yours? 6500 is the total you would be shelling out to the seller? Runs but ugly....hard to say.

What kind of work does it need? What has been done to maintain it...or not. Receipts/records for any/all work? Have you taken someone who is familiar with shovels with you to look at it to see if he also agrees that the purchase is wise?

Lastly, does the frame and vin match. In Kali both need to in order to avoid being tagged as a "special construction" m/c. And I realize this varies by state so this last may not apply to you if your state has different standards.

And if you have been around and felt comfortable with iron head Sportsters you shouldn't have an issue with a shovel. Best thing is to get the manual and parts book, read it and use it and ask questions.

That's a fair price. Not a smokin deal but not gettin raped either. Assuming it's in pretty good condition mechanicaly. But that's something ya just never know till ya get it. I'ld be checking for oil leaks from the heads, engine cases, tranny. Those require more than simple maintenance to fix.
I'ld jump in!
