So I know this has been discussed before, but I had a question about two LED headlights I'm looking at. One is from a company called Gennsi (they sell through ebay) and the other is the Moonmaker from MoonsMC. Aesthetically they look nearly identical. the Gennsi is DOT SAE compliant where as the Moonmaker is "off road use only". Other big difference is output, Gennsi's effective LM is 1770 high and 1550 low. Moonmaker just says 4100LM output. I'm kind of guessing this is the combined low/high beam raw output rather than the effective, but i don't know for sure.
Does anyone have any insight as to the claimed 4100 LM of the moonmaker? We don't have inspections in Wyoming so the DOT SAE isn't a big deal. However there is about a $50 price difference.
OK, so to reply to my own post, I just got a hold of MoonsMC and he confirmed the 4100 LM is a combined high/low LM raw. However, after doing some research on the Ebay one, the company doesn't list them on their website anymore. Also no talk of warranty.
Think I might just go with the Moonmaker considering I've had contact with Tommy and they offer a warranty. And for the black one there's only a $30 difference.
I just went through the same confusion. You google "daymaker" and the number of options that come up are overwhelming. From $79 to over $400. I threw out the lows (mostly shipped from China). And the highs (from over-charging dealerships) and chose from the middle that looked reputable.
Like you, I used the published lumins output to decide. Figured the brighter the better!
I bought my Moons about a month ago. Install was very easy. I have not put many miles on the bike since however I think this unit is just fine. Three photos, off, low and high.
Just placed an order for a Moons. Coming home the other night I realized just had bad the stocker is. Figured for $150 shipped why not give it a try.
I was going to order one myself, it said they are out of stock earlier today. Now it says the chrome is in stock. Tommy said in an email they'd have the black in stock in 5-7 days (at least I assume he meant the black considering that's what I asked about). But I'm with you, stock headlight is awful. I like the look of the LED's and figure it has to be better.
Just to say, items that ship direct from China on eBay (the land of cheap manufacturing, and illegal copies with no regard for copyright and QC) are almost never certified, certainly not DOT. Now I'm sure there are plenty of DOT certified products manufactured in China, but they almost always have a US business reselling them.

I know you didn't ask, but I just installed a moto illumination on my FXDL, there amazing...you might want to check them out as another option

Hmmmmm, I ordered the black yesterday. Hopefully it ships soon and I don't have to wait an extra week.
