Ive been lucky too but the one time I almost lost it at a light was when I was wearing tennis shoes and the road was wet. Thats all it took for me.

yep, I dropped my bike 1 day after putting a bunch of fresh powdercoated parts on, got a nice scratch on my fresh wrinkle black primary. Total bummer!

so as others have said, boots, lowered seat, lowered suspension. I am 5'7" and have my bike lowered 2" front and rear and sit flat footed at a stop. Good luck!

I think having the bike lowered, putting a low profile seat, and getting a good pair of boots with as tall of a heel as you can, you will be able to flat foot it. It makes all of the difference in the world in being able to control that much weight.
34" inseam and you don't reach ? I'm the same and never had trubs

Looks like he was wearing these, pretty flat sole and look like they may be made for competitive riding???

So it's hard to believe that matters here.
Given the circumstances and the design of his shoes I would say it is pertinent. Had he been wearing a boot, even if it was just a work boot he may have had the extra inch to be flat footed.

I have a short inseam myself, lowered my bike 1 inch on the rear. I always wear good riding boots. I have a lot of medical issues including six surgeries on my left leg. Just lowering the bike 1 inch made all the difference in the world. As someone else said you can also get a different seat that tapers down saw your legs touch sooner to the pavement. The important thing is you are both OK and the bike doesn't have any major damage. Ride safe!

If the cause could be tracked to footwear, wouldn't the OP know it? I would

Or a sole that had some better grip. Sole design and composition makes a big difference. I've seen boot soles that looked like you could climb Everest in them and they were slick as snot.

I believe that's what OldEnough was driving at. If I lost footing and dropped my bike, the first thing I'd look at would be my footwear.

Myrtle Bike Week 2012. A little after midnight, leaving Murrell's Inlet & heading back to North Myrtle where we were staying. Cruising up 17, noticed the "HOT" light came on at Krispy Kreme. My buddy & I zip across to the parking lot. Hop off & ready for some awesome doughnuts......BLAM. I forgot to put kickstand down. Laughter & claps...then help righting it. Pride & ego hurt much worse than bike. Been riding since 1977.
