Working today and tomorrow.. No Harley riding this weekend. Riding the 650R as a commuter. At least on two wheels, even if it is to work. Safe riding to all who are able. tp
Bought some rattle cans from Color Rite in my Merlot Sunglo. It was a rainy and sleet filled day in MD, so shot my horns, license plate trim, Freedom Wings, heat deflectors, oil cooler cover and air cleaner mesh. Should get rid of all the add-ons that look added on.
Blacked out the "Ultra" fender badges and added home-made mudflap
I was fooling around in the shop and as Forrest Gump would say, "for no particular reason" I decided to black-out the the "Ultra" badge on both sides of the front fender. Popped them off and sprayed them with about 5 coats of black Plasti-Dip, then stuck them back on. I love Plasti-Dip. If you don't like it you just peel it off. Won't harm the paint, chrome or plastic. Just type "Plasti-Dip" into Youtube and see all the things people do to their cars and motorcycles with it.
Tip: The little push-on nuts were difficult to remove without removing the front wheel, which I wasn't gonna do just to black-out two small badges. I was able to work them off with a long, thin flat blade screwdriver. Taking them off distorted them slightly, so before putting them back on I used a round nosed punch and a small hammer to push the tabs on the push-on nuts back where they should be. I drilled a hole in a 2X4 that was large enough for the "dish" part of the nut to rest in. Then I tapped the tabs back down so the "dish" was round again. Took just a tap or two.
In the photos you can see my high-tech mudflap. I took off the factory fender skirt (and sprayed it with Plasti-Dip!) and then cut a chunk out of a truck tire innertube. I glued it to the inside of the skirt with RTV. The innertube was curved just perfectly, too. Didn't need to force it to conform to the shape of the fender/fender skirt. After I trimmed it up to make it symmetrical I sprayed it with...any guesses? Yes, Plasti-Dip! I did the mudflap thing to my old bike and it lasted for years, too.
