What did you do to Your Sportster Today?
Was feeling mopey so I rode around in the rain today.
I took off my wheels today to get new tires installed. The dealer wanted $80.00 a tire. I wanted to do the work myself because it feels good to take care of the bike personally, plus I get to make sure everything it cleaned, torqued, lubed, and put back together properly.
I may not be the best mechanic, but I have patience and the service manual. plus I get satisfaction and feel one with my bike.
Just the bikes nickname I gave her.
Bikes pretty blacked out, so death, darkness. She likes to get all dirty right after I clean her, and brown leather, so I think dirt applies. There's the constant risk of death when riding motorcycles, risk of taking a dirt nap.
Real names Lily, Lilith. I think it all goes together.
Plus Dirt Nap just sounds cool, to me. And it looks good on a gas tank

I found a seat I liked the look of at a swap meet for less than $100. Since I already have a tiny Battery Tender lithium ion battery, I planned to move ECM to battery compartment. It came with screws underneath in front and rear, so I figured I could fab brackets (I use that word loosely - total noob, and just winged it as I went along).
Problem I found when I got it home: with 4.5 Gallon tank it was too long.
Moved, battery, made rear bracket to lock that in, and started trimming the nose with dremel. Still need to do some finishing touches, but overall I'm happy with it.
Now i just need to find a cheap sissy bar!
Here's some before/progress/after pics:
But seriously, doing the work is part of the art of motorcycles, the beauty, and savoring it continues when you KNOW at 100 mph that every fastener, every adjustment, is dead-on. It's a zen thing...be the bike...
Lilith - that's a good name. She represents the old Pagan religion of female mysteries and sex...
I myself kinna like Sapho, for similar reasons, but what usually come out is "bitch!" - especially with kicker-only bikes that don't cooperate!
