I have a 16 Street Glide Special, mostly ultras in the past and I find myself trying to turn the SG into a ultra....I know, crazy.
Wife gives the go ahead and trade for a new Limited but I'm not crazy about the colors offered. I do like the superior blue on the new ultra classic and RG ultra.
I wish I had a crystal ball to know the colors for 2017. I really liked the Hot White Pearl I had....
I don't think I'd miss the heated grips ( have Gerbings heated gear) or the chrome wheels if I bought a ultra instead of a limited, I would have a CB radio installed on any ultra classic....
Decisions, decisions.....just thinking out loud.....
So what is it you want from the ultra? At this point you may be better off just adding to your street glide as you will take a beating on a trade. Unless you have to have a twin cooled engine, I would think adding to what you have will be more economical, especially if you go with some preowned parts.

Smoother ride, bike to bike comm,
I know I can add the bike to bike, and a set of Ohlins shocks would make the ride better....detached chopped box....
Just thinking out loud.....but you're right, but.....😄
I'm sure cost-wise you'd do better adding to the SG. And in the end you'd have an Ultra with a nicer rear fender! You could build it out of take-off parts cheap enough, buy a CB, and still have the option to pull your QD tourpack off and have mostly your SG look back. But that being said, if the wife is on your side, this is your big chance. They can change their mind without notice!
