I haven't been keeping as detailed a thread as you. Mine is a bit slower go lol. But it was stock when I got it. Here it is as of now. Lighting isn't the best as the sun was setting but you get the idea.
dang thats nice.. loving the pipes and the chopped fender. i have to build up the courage to chop the rear fender and do a run turn brake module for the signal lights. how hard was it? and where did you get yours from?
I used stock turn signals and just made a very simple bracket to mount them to the shock mount. Module I got from Harley. Just plug and play. Don't get any easier than that. To be honest I was scared to death to cut the fender too lol. But it went really easy. If you did the front you can do the back. I also cut the the frame that holds the rear fender back to the bolt holes that hold the rear fender. I then relocated my license plate to the left side. Made a vertical plate mount. Pennsylvania makes a legal vertical plate.
Oh I should say the way I did it, it will never be able to go back to being able to hold a passenger again
AK - Wow! Your bike keeps getting better and better.
I have an 03 883R that I keep mostly stock appearance. It does have a SE breather and SEII mufflers. The carb was properly tuned with the jet sizes for those mods.
It does get in the high 50's for mpg. But I live in a rural area so I am on the open road in a couple of blocks. So I rarely have stop lights to contend with.
Keep posting, I have enjoyed seeing the transformation and the thought process behind each change.
Looking good man! I'm actually soon to remove my tank as well to try and get rid of this shiny paint that's on it. Thinking I'm going the PlastiDip route for now to see how I like the black/red satin finish look. As for mini apes, mine will be available for sale sometime this week if you're interested. Mines an 06 as well so the cables would hook right up to your bike, all you'd need to do is order a wiring kit.
spent the whole f**kn day after work from 630 to 1030 pm trying to get the tank off. i disconnected all the fuel lines.. figured that part out and even replaced the clamp on the petcock fuel line with one of those screw tight metal clamps. front bolt and nut came off with ease. who ever the numnuts was who owned the bike before me took the leisure of over tightening the nut to the bolt that holds the gas tank where the seat is. without too much force i tried and tried to get it to budge but nothing. all in the end... i have a stripped nut instead of a stripped tank. took a quick run to home depot with the front bolt and nut to try to find a bolt/nut remover socket and ended up with one of those gator sockets which was pure crap. it broke and stopped working after two attempts. I'm going back tomorrow to return it and find a hard core nut/bolt remover tool, file it down to a smaller hex size or end up dremmel cutting the bolt off with a diamond cutter. very frustrating
got some tools that will help me with the stripped nut and prevent that from ever happening again in the future. now to rip that tank off and get the stripping!
Yay strippers!!! Ooooh wait, stripping the tank, not strippers, gotcha. Isn't it fun when the PO leaves a f'd up mess for you to deal with? Looking forward to watching this process.
just ordered some goodies for the bike. Got the run/ brake/ rear turn signal module from harley. going to delete the rear brake light and chop that fender down... dont like the long look. going for the nightster/ roadster fender look like the 48s have. along with that a side mount license plate bracket. and a quick release screw for the seat since i find myself taking it off multiple times. i plan on riding it around all weekend so the tank paint strip will have to wait till monday so by next week the bikes undergoing some major facelifts lol
