TOAK- Thread Of All Knowledge- Part VI
Baker and I were the first to arrive in Avon. His bike isn't running right and is throwing codes for a faulty O2 sensor.
After some searching we found a Harley dealership that was open on Monday and Baker is bound and determined that he is going to ride about 120 miles to Denver and get a sensor. I tells him that riding to Denver by himself on a bike that isn't running right might not be too smart and offer to go with him rather than take a chance on him breaking down on the road all by his lonesome.
Russ had a route planned for that day, but away we go to Denver with a pretty good idea where the dealer is located. On the way east on 70 we see a bunch of cars at a standstill outside the tunnel through the mountain. Wreck in the tunnel maybe? We decide to avoid the jam if we can. Sitting on a 6% grade while on a bike doesn't appeal to either of us.
So we decide to take another highway back. We are coming down from Bertha Pass and ahead I see a RK coming heading a group of riders. As we get closer I think to myself "That kinda looks like Russ.."
It WAS Russ. We had run into the group traveling the opposite direction on their route. I waved but I think only one or two people knew it was us.
Shortly after that we ran into some rain. A few drops at first and then it turned lose pretty good. Then it went from rain to sleet as the temps dropped. I don't know if you have ever had sleet hitting your already sun and wind burned face at 60mph, but it smarts!
Finally I see a building up ahead that has a porch and we pull in and get off the bikes and under some cover to wait it out.
We are standing in the covered area smoking cigarettes and we begin to wonder what kind of business it is that has provided us some temporary sanctuary. About that time I see a couple people walk out and get in their car to leave. I walk a little closer to the doors and see a small neon sign that reads "Open".
"Hey Baker" I sez. "I think this is a bar or something. Maybe we can get a drink while we're waiting out the storm"
I open the door to go in and right in front of my wondering eyes was this...

Now you gotta understand something here. I'm from KY. I have a buddy that got 6 months and a $5K fine for a roach in his cig pack. This is culture shock for me. I mean I may or may not have seen marijuana growing before in my life, but this is an actual weed growing operation providing medicinal and recreational marijuana and it's freaking legal!
In shock and with I'm sure my most naďve hillbilly drawl I exclaim out loud..
"Holy **** Baker! It's a F'n grow op!"
I hadn't seen the woman behind the desk to my left but she cracked up.
She invites us to look around and take pictures. We walked into another section to find this..

I think I saw a bright light and faintly heard a choir singing softly and with great feeling. Baker was similarly affected and for a few moments all we could do was stare..
Although we declined to purchase any, they also had a retail shop on site.

He put me out front and I was trying to remember what I had seen on the map that was back in my room and find my way back. It wasn't until later that the Mississippi redneck told me he had a GPS!
I tell ya man. I have never seen anything like it. Ya just walk into a place, pick yer particular flavor of the day, pay for it and they even give you a receipt ( or so I read on the internet...). It's was surreal!
