I'm 73, and my King feels top-heavy too. Kinda hard to hold up sometimes.
One thing I noticed, now that I'm retired, and the weather here is either too hot or too cold, about the only exercise I get naturally is walking from the computer chairin the office to my reading chair in the living room.
I started doing exercises, squats for leg strength, some yoga for flexibility, some stuff for upper body. Its an on-going thing, but its helping a lot.
The Deluxe is actually a bit longer than your Road King and within 30 lbs curb weight, but is lower slung so it handles like a dream in parking lots compared to the FL frames.
not quite.
the road king has an overall length of 96.5 inches, while the deluxe has an overall length of 94.9 inches. due to the longer rake of the deluxe, the wheelbase is almost identical, 64'' for the roadking, 64.4'' for the deluxe.
weight in running order for the roadking is 814lbs, while the deluxe is 730lbs, a difference of 84lbs.
i'm getting some great ideas from you guys. its good to know i'm not the only one willing to admit he's getting old. several years ago i put the lowering kit in the front of my road king and sent the shocks to that outfit in las vegas that shortens shocks. the lowering helped a lot, but the rear is a bit stiff and rides almost like a hard tail. even with the lowered riding, the damn thing is still a very heavy bike. yea! i'm getting to be a real wuss in my old age. the next time i'm at a harley shop i may try to get a demo ride on a soft tail. i live in the mountains and nothing feels like taking the curves on two wheels. i just don't think i would do good on a trike or side car, partly just admitting i can't handle two wheels any more . what an ego killer.
