Default Tour Pak Questions

I recently bought a 15 RGS Amber Whiskey, love the bike, dressing her up my way. Not ready to spend the money HD wants for them. I found a reputable shop to paint one for less than $300.00 Talking with the local HD rep and he was not able to tell which aftermarket Tour Pak the HD lock set that would match my bike fit into.
Has anybody have experience with this I sure would like to know.

Since this photo I changed engine guard to black, added black saddlebag guards, installed Airwing LED lighted bars for sissy bar and luggage rack.

By the time you buy an aftermarket tour pac and spend $300 to paint it, you will be nearing a HD color matched tour pac.

You have already spent big money on apes, slip-ons, ventilator breather and at least a stage one download, color matched lowers, back rests, etc. The couple of hundred you might save on an aftermarket tour pac wont be worth it in my opinion.

Agree with above poster, if the paints off with an indy shop you may have little recourse as he will say "it wont be 100% but it will be close". Stick with HD, you cant go wrong as you know paint and fitment will be 100%!

Since the style of the new box has changed maybe you don't care to stay with the new style.UNLESS you have found an aftermarket that matches the new design?
If it doesn't matter to you and depending on how much you are using the box would determine the paint job quality..If you are just picking up a cheap box then get a rattle can and just do a "D.I.Y." Paint job..You can get HD Match colors from companies other than HD...Shop around..
You can get a lock set to match your bike, just give your dealer your number and they can order it..
I have a few boxes I use...1 is for show,1 is for camping..I rarely use either...I'm not a fan of having the T.P. On....To me it's to top heavy...But that's me...
Good Luck!!! Nice bike and color BTW!!!!!

A chopped tour pak, Matzua has a nice one for around 150. If I go that route wondering if the HD Lock set would fit. Still looking, need to save some money in either event.

Go to e-bay and find some POS Chinese tour pak then have the painter try to match the paint.
Then after a few months of hating it, go and do what you should have done in the first place and order a color matching one from HD.

I'm assuming "ss" is an abbreviation for "Social Security".
Obviously you're not struggling too much since you're riding a $20K motorcycle.

You need to do what most of us do.
Create two list; a list of must haves and a list of want to haves.

For must haves start saving the money to clear the list.
Sure it probably will take time but that's what makes it so valued.

For want to haves; start keeping an eye on craigslist, e-Bay and the HDF forum classifieds for deals.
As the deals come up, pluck then up and take then off the list.

Go for the real deal. I purchased a tour pack for my Softail and it's still sitting in my garage.
The first one had paint and small dent issues. The second one the lid doesn't close correctly and the stay will not stay attached. Contacted the seller 98% positive ratings and they wouldn't replace the second one.
