Wow.

While it may be nice those times of year, you should get off the couch if not possible.

I wonder if people who give advice, actually have any real world experience.

I have been there twice on my bike, in August.

My advice, is do all the loops. It is all great.

I started at Cody, glad I spent the night in the park, rather then driving in and out.

Yellowstone is great because so much is accesible to the public. Park, work 50 yards.

One trip I did Cheif Josef, Beartooth was closed. Next time Beartooth. GF just mentioned yeserday Josef was the coldest ride ever. Even though we have been to AK and Arctic Circle. But it is timing. Snowed on Beartooth week or two before we went through. Not warm at 11k no matter what.

To me the best time to see Yellowstone is winter. The town of West Yellowstone is quiet and a tour of the park on snowmobile is an all day event. The bison are plentiful as are eagles, coyote, beaver, etc. We've been going for several years and will be there again this February.
It sure beats the Long Island Expressway.

I entered from the North, spent the whole day hitting every spot.
Left and proceeded down to Jackson Hole to spend the night...unbelievable experience on and off the motorcycle seat!

Depends on how much time you have. I was on a ride in Montana and Idaho last week and met 2 guys who said it took all day just to ride across the park, July is usually the busy month. Last year we rode up there mid October and Beartooth was already closed due to snow, but the park was great to ride. If you have the time Old Faithful - Geyser and Lodge, Mammoth, Yellowstone falls, Lake Lodge and if you didn't come in through Grand Teton you need to see those mountains. One year near Old Faithful we hiked back to some water falls and had a great view of OF when it erupted.

We go once or twice a year and it's always amazing.
Here's a link that shows a one day ride we did this year:

thanks for the replies guys...

I should mentioned that I am going from livingston to idaho falls in one day through jackson. So plan on seeing Teton as well. So my options are as below:

I understand that its the peak time to visit Yellowstone but I am on a 17 day road trip and dont have a lot of time. All recommendations welcome. Specific places to stop at, etc, etc...

thanks!

Yeah, I have a lot of experience in that area or I wouldn't have posted. 8 or 10 times in through the park over the years. I stand by my suggested times of year to avoid the traffic. I still go to the area and ride the Beartooth and Chief Joseph, but not the park anymore. 100's of minivans full of foreign tourists parking in the road for long periods of time to take pictures of a damn buffalo isn't my cup of tea.

I like #3 See the Falls and Old Faithful.

I stayed at Motel West in Idaho Falls last week and it was OK:
