Deer are a big problem up here too. I'm always worried riding to work in the dark of the morning.
Glad your didn't get hurt to bad, but cracked ribs must really hurt.

Maybe get a trials bike and just jump over it? Not sure what else. Hit a deer in my Mitsubishi Lancer and managed $6000 in damage so I'm not so sure anything with two or three wheels is going to fare any better than your Road Glide.

Get good insurance and slow down is probably your best bet.
