Coalinga area. There are some interesting roads out that way.
It was great getting to meet Mike yesterday. Yes Cigars LTD in Clovis. It was a beautiful day to spend an hour or so sitting on their patio. The bonus was I got to stare at Mike's Deluxe. What a beautiful bike. Oh and Mike that exhaust sounds fantastic.
Thanks!
Yesterdays ride was up around Pine Flat, pretty much in the same area Tommy was in. Then I cut off on a single lane twisty with lots of cattle along the road. A nice easy pace keeping an eye on those cows. Then over Burroughs Valley and up old Tollhouse grade, across the top of 168 and back down Auberry road into Clovis. Elevation maxed out at just about 5000 feet, so it didn't get too cold.
Keep me posted about the get together. If I'm not in Texas, I'll go along. If the meet is in Three rivers, a good place to meet is the River view lounge. Good grub and a patio right on the Kaweah river. It is only a short ride to the entrance to Sequoia park from there.
That's the one Mike. Just after that ranger station is where I snapped the photo. I used to ride those roads frequently as training rides back in my bicycle racing days. I'll tell ya, Maxon has a couple pretty steeps sections that were a challenge back when I was the "motor" which made it ideal for those types of rides. Now, it's just a bit more twist of the wrist.
Have fun on your ride Sunday. Watch out for the crazies.....unless of course you are one of the crazies.
The weather was nice this weekend. At least in the Valley. So, I took a ride up to see if the road to Cedar Grove and beyond was open. Not yet. But it got really cold up there once above 5000 feet. Almost like a boundary layer.
Historically, the road opens in April. Maybe for those still interested, we can put something together for May.
With no particular place to be, and Nat'l Park season pass in hand, the destination was Cedar Grove/End of the road Hwy 180. Hot in the SJ Valley, very pleasant at 6000 feet!
Left the house at 6:30am, end of the road at 9am, breakfast at Cedar Grove at 10. A glorious ride!
Anytime you wanna come up from down south and do a ride in KC, I'm down to join you.
Unfortunately, I reckon it looks a lot different on the road back into Cedar Grove than it did when you were last here. Some section look like a bomb went off, some are scattered with dead trees, and then some sections are still beautiful
