I always carry a tool roll, small bungee net, warmer/cooler gloves, sunscreen, padlocks and cleaning cloths as a minimum.
Hadn't thought about sunscreen.
Took the bags off and really like the look.
Think I sill leave them off after this ride. Need to figure out where to keep registration, insurance and spare glasses. I will look for a small pack for the seat.
I hate to break it to you, nobody gives a rat's **** crevice if your bike has saddlebags or not. Stop caring what others think.
That said, what don't I put in my saddlebags? Not only do I commute daily on my bike, it's my campaign vehicle and a portable office. Anything and everything.
Tomorrow I will be canvassing a neighborhood and will have my literature and street lists in them. Along with a spare shirt, spray deodorant, rain pants, assorted tools, and too many other things to even recall. My saddlebags are essential. If you don't like how my bike looks, oh well! LoL
Function had nothing to do with it. I don't need them for the ride. I do care what my bike looks like.
Function is everything, I still have an older set of leather throw over saddlebags for long trips although my swing arm bag holds two sets of T's, boxers, socks, and jeans, if rolled up properly for those weekend get a ways.
You didnt post a pic to show us what you're talkin about so I let my mind wander.
...Does the bike look better with or without them? ...
When you ask whether something looks good or not, it helps to SEE what you are talking about. Post a picture and note what year and model bike you have.

Exactly....Might as well ask us if your bicycle looks better with or without training wheels......
Paper or plastic? Pink Floyd or Led Zepplin? Bags or no bags. I like the no bags look.....but as someone just posted, take them off and I will need them.
