I have JDs. I like the look of them. They don't do much for cold weather riding, cold to me is below 45° though. Maybe bigger ones would help. They do protect your hands from road debris.
here in the northeast I try to ride once per week until the salt hits the road so for cold weather I modified some snowmobile muffs to work with the Harley
and they work great.. anyone that remembers vetters hippo hands from back
in the day know how well they worked..
between the batwing, the ultra lowers that I put on for winter and the muffs I have ridden in to the upper 20s using only riding gloves and down in to the teens using
the muffs and venture heat gloves I bought
I have the JD Customs coffin cut hand guards on my FXDF. All you have to is buy the mounting hardware off of a street bob for the turn signals. I think I only needed it for the left side actually. It cost like $10 if I remember correctly. There are pictures of my bike on here is a few threads. I think I have some close ups of the guards on my phone if you really want to see them.
I put these National Cycle hand guards on in 2010, thinking I would take them off in the summer. Never did as they allow me to wear lighter gloves in any weather. The keep the wind off your fingers and the back of your hand.
Secondary benefits of the lightly tinted clear NC, 1) you do not even notice them and when I tell people about them, they did I just put them on. 2) in rain, my gloves stay DRY! I don't need any other reason than that. 3) I added heated grips, I am comfy down to 36-38F with light summer gloves. Fit on mirror stem, take you 4 minutes to install.

National Brand Hand guards fit Harleys quite nice. They stop a little wind, and protect your hand from debris/rocks, etc... and they support hand covers nicely if you ride in cold or rain
