Carry Glock 43 on my hip or occasionally my Springfield 1911. where it belongs. People don't tend to tailgate me when they see it printing under my mesh jacket or when the jacket rides up a bit.

I'm guessing that by "printing" you mean being able to see the outline of your weapon against your jacket. Either you are talking about a tailgater that is REALLY close or REALLY paying close attention to your clothing. I have a hard time with either of those concepts.
Then again my "weapon" sits close to the tank while I'm riding and is probably not as big as yours.
All I can say is I'm glad I live where a possible tailgating isn't likely to involve anybody carrying or using a weapon (of any kind)
Mostly layer of clothes.Rain suit in a pouch.Towel and bungee cords.
Should always carry it on you.But I do like the inside holsters.

Right bag empty until the girlfriend rides along and no telling what will go in there.
Left bag has registration, insurance card, warm gloves, night glasses and ball cap and if girlfriend shops at stops whatever she gets goes in there as well.
I have read this post, and am amazed at the amount of people that are armed. I also must assume that there are a lot of people that are involved in law enforcement, and that dictates the need to be armed. I have been riding since 1969 and have NEVER carried a gun not once in all my travels. In fact I have made several trips coast to coast (alone by the way) and never found a need to be armed.
I really guess I am missing something. My question is are people expecting trouble while out riding around? I am thinking that the world must be a totally different place than I perceive it to be. I guess that I must live in a sort of fantasy world or something.

Some people feel insecure if they aren't armed. Some people feel tougher with a gun. And some people just want a fighting chance in the unlikely event that they need it.
I've never needed a fire extinguisher in my home, but I have them.
