I may be wrong but I have concerns that the file(s) you want to import comes from a file with spaces in its name and that may be causing problems for the Boom.

Whatever your source is (I assume a Garmin GPS), can you export your data so the file name has no spaces? If not, change the file name on the desktop so there are no spaces.

edit: Suggest you change your file name to test.gpx and see if the Boom imports the data.

another edit: Just to confirm my thinking, I exported my Boom data and the file name was H-D_NavData.gpx. I realize spaces are okay in Word document names, e-mail documents, etc. but I suspect it's an issue for the Boom.

I tried the same importing process using the actual one word name in the file on my Garmin 665. No luck. It did the same thing where I enter the file with right joy stick, the file moves to the header and nothing else happens.

What Boom software version are you using? I ask because if it is the one that was pulled from the HD website (1.20.2), this may be another issue.

The bike had 1.20.2 and I asked the dealer to put it back to 1.20.1 given the issues I read about. The tech had some challenges getting it to go back to 1.20.1 but he eventually got it back. It now says 1.20.1 on the bike.

To eliminate the 665, try going into HD Ride Planner. Create a simple route and go into gps synch, manual mode, save as gpx file, export stops and waypoints and save file. See if that can be imported to the Boom.

It's disturbing that there were difficulties getting it to go back to 1.20.1

I believe in the Garmin world "current.gpx" is the last route the unit followed. Saved addresses/POIs - like individual address locations, cool things to see, etc are not what the Boom import wants to process.

The Boom import will bring in GPX navigation route files. For instance you use Basecamp, HD Planner, Tyre, to create a route from point a to point b and you want to import that into the Boom so you can follow the route. That is a "trip".

I have not seen a way to import a list of addresses and POIs into the Boom. You can manually input the address in the Boom and let it complete it's initial calculation, then you can save that to the address book. Be sure to do the save step before starting the route because I've only found the save function before starting.

In theory you could use one of the computer programs, put the address you want in your address book, do not do special waypoints for navigation, then export that as an individual GPX file. Repeat for each location in your address list.

ie:
Favorite hot spot.gpx
Mommas.gpx
Library.gpx

This would put them in your trip menu and you may be able to later save them into address book. Again, all theory, I have not tried this.

But I think you'll continue to go in circles with trying "current.gpx".

NOTE: A GPX file is a simple text file with XML data elements. You can open it in any text editor, such as Notepad on a Windows machine. Try looking at the text in the file to see what is listed, it's fairly easy to decipher what it's listing. I'm guessing you'll see it does not hold the individual addresses you think it does.

Wooo hooooo! Solved but let me share what I've learned for others to follow.

First, the BOOM manual clearly states that "trips, trails and destination files" can be imported into the BOOM system. And once imported they will be stored in their apropriate menu section (routes to trip, desinations to saved POIs, etc).

Next, the "current.gpx" file on any Garmin device includes evey single "Favorite Destination" plus all "Custom Routes". Most Garmins are limited to 20 custom routes stored on the device at a time. I do not believe there is a limit on how many favorite destinations can be saved. I had 20 custom routes and several hundred destinations in my Garmin 665. There were at least 4 pages of data in my original "current.gpx" file.

I started to think the volume was choking the BOOM system as I recall there were issues with route limitations in previous versions of the BOOM software (since increased).

So I went back into my Garmin and started to delete old destinations and old routes that weren't that important to me. I reduced the favorite destinations from over 250 to about 80 and my custom routes from 20 to 2. My original current.gpx file was 1.28mb. My new reduced current2.gpx file was a much smaller 78kb.

I started the import process all over again with the new smaller import file.

Hooray. The data imported without difficulty. All favorite destinations from my Garmin 665 showed up in my BOOM "Saved" destinations folder and my 2 favorite routes from my Garmin showed up in the BOOM Trip folder.

Fantastic. I have no idea what the limit is in terms of data, destinations or routes but 250+ destinations + 20 routes (1.28mb) of data is too much for BOOM To import and 80 destinations + 2 routes (78kb) was easily imported.

Thanks to everyone for the feedback. It helped move my thinking and understanding of the issue to the solution above.

Hope this helps others in the future.

Heatwave: It's great you got that solved and the following issues I am having with song limitations is similar.

I have over 4,000 songs on my flash drive (just over 55 GB). When I add a new album, the number of songs does not increase the total but if I search by artist, I see that the songs were added.

There are definitely limitations to what the system was designed to accept. We are just discovering them as we experience issues.

Great work staying with the problem and noodling out a solution. Your documentation will definitely help someone else avoid the frustrations.

Thanks.

Heatwave,

Thanks, it helped me. I had a bunch of favorite destinations on my Zumo 550.
After reading this I was able to import them all.

Once I made the current.gpx file I opened it up in mapsouce and cleaned it up.
Saved it, then imported it into the boom audio NAV.

Thanks again.
