Well, I'll do my best on this. I don't really have a "when I bought it" photo because I brought it home in 7 cardboard boxes, so I'll show what it looked like when I got it running the first time. It's a 1962 XLCH Ironhead that I turned into an old 60's style chopper.

Fall of 2003 - I had it running for about 6 months at this point:

After the frame broke twice (once annoying, once catastrophically), I decided to replace the old frame (metal fatigued) with a new frame from Paughco. Here's what it looked like when I was done. Build photos are posted below.

Here are a few shots I took during construction.

Just the engine sitting on the workbench:

Working on the frame. The kickstand mount didn't work with the kickstand I had, so I had to do a minor mod.

It's now a rolling chassis. I didn't have the new front end, so I was still working with the old one.

Here's a shot of the coffin tank I was building. It's just tacked together at this point.

Getting a little closer. More items added in the mock up process. I had to modify the old oil tank so that it would clear the chain. I have the custom forward controls installed.

I don't have a picture of the "New" front end, but here's an old ad from back in the day.

Coffin Tank, after paint:

Another shot of the tank with the rear fender after paint.

Close up of the tank after installation:

I was able to get the custom Plate I wanted. 62 Chopper!

OK, Here's a few shots of the bike as it is now. I'll post a bunch of the details below these.

OK, now for the specs:

Year and Model: 1962 XLCH
Engine: 900cc V-Twin HD
Transmission: V-Twin 4 speed
Clutch: Barnett 9 plate Kevlar.
Frame: Paughco Model 120B Rigid Sportster 40* 1 1/2" stretch
Controls: Custom Forwards built by me. Includes footboards, not pegs. (did I mention that I hate footpegs?)
Carb: Keihan non-CV, vintage 1976-1978
Aircleaner: Vintage - of unknown origin.
Front End: Harmon Girder - Vintage unknown (late 60's?)
Front Wheel: 21" 40 spoke with Avon Roadrunner 90/90H21
Rear Wheel: 16" 40 spoke with Avon MK II 5.00x16
Exhaust: Paughco Model 719B2F upswept fishtails
Tank: Custom Coffin hand built by me. Custom duel fuel outlets with a remote fuel valve mounted on the left side between the jugs. The tank was just too close to the rockers to install a petcock.
Oil Tank: Custom Wrap-Around modified from vintage.
Brakes: Rear Drum - Stock, Front - None
Electrical: Converted to 12V system ala 1965 Sportster. All new wiring routed through 3/8" metal brake line that was welded to the frame during construction. Custom Voltage Regulator mount between the down tubes up front.
Turn signals: Are You Joking?! This is a '62! NONE!
Paint: Custom by Taz onebadtaz63@aol.com
Base coat is a modified 2004 Chevy Dark Green Metallic. When I had the paint mixed, I had the grey metal flake left out and added dark green pearl. After the base coat was laid down, the flames were masked off and the gold flake shot. Then multiple layers of clear were applied. The whole thing was then wet sanded and remasked for the green candy which was applied to the flames and then the whole thing was cleared again.

She's kick start only and runs off a Fairbanks-Morse magneto mounted in an aftermarket housing - Vintage unknown. I wanted the keylock on the magneto. Remote Oil Filter welded to the back of the frame (left side). Easy to get to - Out of the way and away from the pipes and engine heat. Custom seat bracket. I needed those 5" springs under my butt. I'm too old to ride a full rigid.

That's all I can think of at the moment. Any other questions will be answered.

Got this 09 883L new.

Photo taken on the night I picked it up, bone stock.

Photo of it taken recently-

So many things to list...here's a thread showing all of the changes it has been thru-

https://www.hdforums.com/forum/sport...-makeover.html

Here are a couple of cliff note pics listing a lot of the changes-

A few items not listed in the pics above-

Power Vision with Target Tune

One-off Sissy bar

Progressive springs and Intiminators in front forks

Take-off 12" Touring air shocks

Oil Filter Relocation

DLX Billet Coil Relo

A few things I would have done differently-

Used a quality full-tang dagger on the sissy bar...I've broken two cheapo daggers now.

Radius-ed the belt cut-out in my rear fender...would have prevented a repair I had to make a while back.

Can't think right off hand of anything else I regret or would do differently. I am really pleased with it.

Photo from a 5 day trip this last summer-
