LOTS of larger cities now have "Maker" labs/shops where a person can pay a small fee to use space and equipment to produce "things" that would otherwise be out of the reach of common people due to the expense/size of the equipment used. I know 3D printers are a popular tool in the Maker labs around here. I just wish I didn't have to drive an hour to get to one.

I have access to a suite of printers at work, but I'd be crucified if I tried to use them for personal stuff.

Just one of many things I've designed and printed:

True. We've used a few different ones when our beds were too small or we couldn't do a particular material. I know we've used ProtoLabs and at least one or two others I can't recall the names of.

I was looking at autodesk 123D earlier. And also saw 3d system was doing this stuff for confederate motorcycles. Issue is i need the original dash scanned for dimensions and a baseline/foundation to work from.

fun times

this might be a viable move. I would like to do something with the space but, have it modular. That way i could adjust and adapt that dead space without a full redesign. A lot like timing cover awesomeness a few posts back. Maybe even quick release options.

the wheels are turning in my head here. I was thinking about the wasted spaces that are in the sort-of cockpit zone on my bike this morning while i was riding in to work. Fork tree bolt covers, fork nut covers, bar clamp..... all wasted space. That's a tangent though.

I know Hexagon Metrology will do product scanning and dimensional analysis/reporting (CMM, laser, and/or white light). I used to be able to do it myself but the equipment was shipped out a couple months ago. Corporate is closing my plant. Anyway, not sure how much Hexagon charges but if they do it, so do others. May be worth a look see.

Nice! Did you get the lower harness too? You'll need it for the ignition.
