For those with a J&S Lift, what makes it better / safer than other motorcycle lifts on the market? How is they can get away without straps when lifting the bike?
nah, not really. if you go by the book, 38 oz will fit just fine whether it's level or on the jiffy stand.

seems a lot of 'standard' notions are going to have to change with the m8 bikes. according to the owner's manual, the new primaries only need 30 oz on a 'wet' fill, and should be changed/checked upright.
Oil always shoots over the edge of the drain pan when I do mine. Got to where I hold a deflector in the oil stream to keep it from doing so until the rate slows a bit.
Oil filter.... never to this day have I even had any luck with the oil not backing up over the lip of the HD funnel and then down the front of the bike no matter how hard I push the funnel underneath the filter. It just makes for less of a mess that still needs cleaned up. Last time I punched a hole in filter end to predrain. Didnt like doing so. Was afraid I'd crack the filter housing, so wont be doing that again. One of these days, I'll get smarter than the funnel. Is the funnel for the new M8s different than previous yr?
I will testify! It's a handy-dandy addition to the J&S jack!

It's extremely sturdy. No jerky while you're pumping it up and letting it down. The wide footprint also seems to stabilize the entire setup. And, it's heavy - no cheap, hollow pot metal.
J and S Oil deflector works as advertised, just insure that you have it positioned correctly, ie centered, shifted as necessary to insure all three can drain simultaneously.

With J&S it's all in the frame, if you have a strong foundation anything you put on it will be very stable. Also you need strong rigid steel with lateral supports. J&S also has a low wide stance contributing to the jacks stability and lift characteristics. J&S found out that if your jack is wider at your pick up points, it adds greater stability opposing to narrow or closer pick-up points.
It's so plainly simple basic principles its a wonder why other mc jack manufactures are not following.
To me J&S jack doubles itself as it's also made in the USA!

That a great idea using wax/parchment paper. I will give it a try on my next oil change.
Definitely a good idea & I use tinfoil to protect from messes as well. Also, another member who called in my J&S jack order...they threw in the oil pan adapter as well (when I asked). Great company/team to work with & my jack's going on 7-yrs w/all original parts...still lifting/dropping strong.
