I don't care for the one piece balaclavas that tuck into your jacket. For me, they restrict side to side head movement. The two piece setup above doesn't have this issue.
Warmth wise. Absolutely no issues.
Down sides... You have something over you nose - slightly squishing it into your face. My noses seems to run like crazy with this setup. Other issue - have to pull my riding glasses away from my face at stops or they will fog over. Don't know if a new pair with fog resistant lenses would help this.
I just picked up an Under Armour "infrared" balaclava from Dicks Sporting Goods. Best $30 I've spent in a while. I'm a big guy with a big head, and this thing fits great & protects my neck. It's dedisgned to wear over the nose, under the chin or around the next. I just wear it by its self or with a baseball hat turned around and haven't had any issues with hour plus rides at highway speeds.
I highly recceomend it, my face is much happier than it was with my old fleece balaclava
So the only thing I've been able to find so far in the full face protection area. Would be second face on. And unfortunately...it seems as though they've gone out of business and I don't trust the sites left that still "sell" them.
Any other good suggestions for simple, warm, and inparticular wind proof/resistant face wear?
Thanks in advance...Everything I've tried pretty much sucks and doesn't last long in 30 or less temps.
Schampa makes (made?) a balaclava(sp?) that is waterproof and windproof and that's what I wear when I have to ride in anything colder than 40°F (a beard doesn't really help much at those temps when riding 60 mph which actually turns out to be about 25°F at 60 mph).
I've ridden when it was 18°F out, and the Schampa did just fine.
The reason I say 'made?' is because I can't find the model that I got 8 years ago and so can't be sure that their winter stuff is the same stuff mine was made of. If it IS the same stuff though, it's worth the weight of the bike in gold, especially if you're like me and only wear a half-helmet.

Our black leather face wrap is made from chap leather, lined with colored fleece, and is perfect to keep your face and neck warm and toasty during colder weather rides. The sewn in Velcro makes it easy to take the wrap on and off, even with heavy leather gloves.
After many yrs of riding I know that www.hotleathers.com sells the warmest face mask I have every had ! They have two , one that's just a mask from the nose down and the other will cover your nose and neck very well . Both are nice soft leather with a fleece backing . Each are $19.95 I give both a very high rating . The SKU# is NWL1009 and NWL2001.

and it's 15 bucks more then the one on hot leathers . That's almost twice the price !
Even though I have the Hot Leather version I know it's not the same as Capt Itch's, I've seen his work and it is top quality. I caught the Hot Leathers on sale locally at half off. It was well worth $10
