Started on asian and brit. In 1979 I bought a Sporty and Eglide. Worse motorcycles I have ever owned. No wonder Harley basically went bust with junk like that. Many years later I bought a M8 RK and happy!
Does 1964 count? Me in front. A few years later I was on the one in my avatar.
Currently on my fifth Harley. What people that have never ridden one really don't understand is that it's a real motorcycle. Behind the fairing and bags, if there are any, it's just a motorcycle.
That's why they're cool.

Back in 1976 I started out on a Kawasaki Enduro, with a rotary valve. It was a two stroke. Also had a Corvair, 66, I think - my first car. Had a few metrics, it was fun. I remember the Suzuki GS1100E, that was a fun bike to ride!
Good times!
After being away from riding for 20+years, started again on a Suzuki c50t, moved up to a C90t. GF's only complaint was positioning of rear foot pegs. One day we stopped at local HD and she got on the back of a Ultra and said this was how she wanted to ride. Easy enough, sold the c90t and bought a one owner 2008 Ultra (signature).
