Default Road trip around lake erie

Hello all, so im planning a road trip this summer around lake erie and im looking for some interesting and maybe off the beating path places to visit.

i'll be making the trip with a few close friends. We're planning on starting in London Ont. then Buffalo Cleveland and Detroit. We've planned on giving ourselves 5 days to do the trip.

What im looking for is places to visit on the way. Great sites to see, amazing restaurants , good pubs or bars (live music is always a bonus), events and some roads that are great to ride.

We plan to avoid the freeway as much as possible and not overly interested in big chain restaurants or super tourist attractions other than the rock and roll hall of fame.

Any advice, tips hints or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Google Letchworth State Park in NY, Kinzua Bridge State Park in PA, and Kinzua Dam in PA. Maybe too far east & out-of-the-way for you, but they're pretty cool stops. There's great riding in PA, but it's all east of Bflo, Erie, and Cleveland. Sorry, can't help you much.

Thanks for the reply. That dam does look pretty interesting. We're certainly not opposed to going out of the way on this trip. part of the reason we're planning for five days. Anyone else want to weigh in?

Interesting..... your route does seem much nicer as far as scenery. What places would you recomend stopping on that trip? i highly doubt we could do that in our 5 day timeline.

If you choose to stick to Lake Erie, check out Geneva On The Lake, Ohio. It's literally a carnival style resort town. Very biker friendly, lots of cheap entertainment, cheap beer, food, etc. On the weekends it can get busy. Lots of outdoor bands and stuff going on.

that sounds exactly like the kind of place we would be into. i think that will for sure be a destination. Sounds like we better plan to make that an overnight stay

Last year I went around all the Great Lakes.

I would say if I were to only go around one of the Great Lakes Lake Erie would be my very last choice. It doesn't have as good of scenery as the other lakes. ON the south side of Erie it's all interstate so you can make good time but I prefer the smaller wooded highways.

I agree with giacomo56, Lake Huron would be the best lake to go around. If you think that route is too long try Lake Ontario. You'll see Niagra Falls. Upstate New York is beautiful (even on Interstate 90!). Then the Thousand Island area. I've got to say Toronto is one of my favorite cities in the world but since it's not far from your home town you may have been there many times.

Those are my recommendations. Keep us posted. I'd like to hear about your trip.

i will for sure keep you all posted and i appreciate all the replies. The trip will be in july either the 2nd or 3rd week.

Your right that toronto is an amazing city and also i have been there many times. As for niagara falls ive seen it more than once. To me its a great site to see but way to busy with the typical tourists. It will likely be somewhere we just pass through to get to the border

If you are not set on sticking to the lake shore, look at Ellicotville NY, about an hour south of Buffalo.. Nice small village, nice accommodations, good food and a local brewery. Wouldn't be a bad place to stop of the night. Nice scenic rides in and out.
