Default 1985 FXRS front turn signals

I guess my eyes are going but, in the manual the print is soooo small on the wiring schematic that I truly cannot make it out clearly.

My FXRS came without stock front signals, and there are only two wires coming from the headlight bucket on the R, and one on the left. I wired some cheapo mini signals and the right side blinks fine, but the left blinks real slow.

I wired the hot to hot and I believe the GROUND is actually the housing for the signal mounts?

I will be replacing the bucket and lens as soon as it shows up. I also have a ground? issue coming from that same hot wire on the bucket that I have wired the lights to, as my TACH bounces and speedo dial light goes in and out and as jiggle it.

I was hoping someone could assist in confirming how many wires ACTUALLY are needed to each signal and, what colors they are SUPPOSED to be?

TIA!

I don't have the wiring diagram for your bike but both of my softails have 2 wires going to each front turn signal.
One for the constant light and one for the blinker.

It sounds like you are missing the constant hot for your left side.

Mine also ground through the housing.

On an '84 FXST the left turn signal switch the wire colors are G and V which I assume are green and violet and the right turn signal switch wire colors are Br and G which I assume are Brown and Green.

I hope this helps.

Thanks THC. I will open up the headlight bucket later on and check.

I just looked at the stock turn signals and they only have ONE lead coming off of them, so my assumption is they never had "running light" capability?

I do believe I have found the answer, one lead for each light/turn signal according to attached diagram. I guess running lights weren't in effect in 1985? Thanks folks!

It doesn't look like it does it??

FWIW I just went through hell with the front turn signals on my '94 and it turned out to be an aftermarket module was to blame.

Is your bike stock or is there some kind of aftermarket module in there somewhere?

Yep, I believe stock? I wont know until my new head light bucket arrives and I check for grounds/shorts in there as I am having the dreaded TACH BOUNCE. I am pretty sure something loosened up or is shorting.

STAY TUNED

Looking at the 1985 FXRS owner's manual bulb chart ... 4 of the same bulbs were used for the turn signals. No running light listed
