Wow. Ive learned so much from this thread. I love the idea of the catch can. It makes so much sence to keep that nasty mist out of my motor. As soon as i finish buttoning up my handle bar replacement, the diy air cleaner and catch can are my next project. Thank you everyone for all the info and pics. Threads like this give me so much more confidence doing things like this myself.
I ran mine under my A/C and its a 587. Not a great pic (dropped my phone and cracked the camera) but...it blends in. It will leave some oul down the pipes and oil tank if im riding her hard but...oh well.
So your saying the catch can doesn't work to well ?
I was not happy with the breather bolts small amount of spray on the side of my bike. I have put about 300 miles on this design with no spray and no catch can.
simply vent to the atmosphere thru a hose to the bottom of the motor, can also remove the cam cover and drill and tap for a fitting aiming the hose downward like the 1972 models. The only reason there in the head is for emissions

Looks good man.

They seem to work well, and a lot of folks will like the look better that this-

Here's a photo of some oil dumped from a catch can on a bike that took a lot of short rides in colder weather.
You can see why you don't want that crap going back into your intake.
But then where does this stuff collect?...probably not running uphill

It stays in the tubes and the space before the umbrella valves until the bike get hot enough to burn it off...the vapors exhale thru the filter.
It does NOT mix back into the engine.
If all one ever does is short runs, never getting up to optimal operating temps for any significant period of time, then this type of set up is not for them.
