I can easily see the plastic film protectors... I agree that they work in the best bang for the buck and protect the original HD look but they don't make riding in front of texters and drunks any safer... which more lights may not do either... sigh. I may use both the film and the rails so that the sleeping roll and tent also don't mar up the bag tops. When I am solo I won't need the tour pack to still be able to go camping.
I got it. Both paint protector, easier to be seen, and cheap.......reflective tape!
I agree with cdestuck, they look like ****. Riding around Bike Week 2 weeks ago I saw people with lid bras. WTF are you people doing that you need to "protect" the top of your saddlebags? I've ridden Harley baggers for 14 years without ever getting a single scratch on the top of my bags.
One word - passenger. Sometimes the ball and chain isn't as careful as I am.
That said, I'd rather repaint my lids every year than put those fugly-*** bra-things on my lids. Some like them, but I most certainly do NOT.
I had them on my 12'RG and I also had the LED's on them, which were only bright enough in the evening. They definitely saved the paint and I thought really did a better job then the 3M tape that I have on my 15'SG. Mounting and wiring were easy enough even for someone like me, but the disconnecting is a bit of a pain. I used them to attach only light things like my chaps(hot weather) on road trips.
I kinda like them. I had them on a 2000 Classic, and I found them handy for traveling. I bungee corded my air matress on on side, and my rain grear to the other side. Both were light items and did not get in the way of opening up the lids.

Thank you. Finally someone with something to contribute to my OP
