2015 Wide Glide Seat Fiasco
I come here to the forum like most of you to get advice and to share some of my own experiences...
So here it is... Seats!! ... specifically Solo Seats...
I'm bleeding money over here and have not yet found what I am looking for...
Lets face it the stock seat sucks... (I think a 2x4 with a paper towel wrapped around it would be an improvement)
So here is what I have purchased and NOT liked so far...
First off, yes what it looks like matters!!! Don't kid yourself... These are Wide Glides...
#1 Seat: Mustang Regal Duke... $232
Not a bad looking seat (that chopper look) but it put me 2" higher and 2" forward... Awkward So i returned it...
cost to return $47
#2 Harley Davidson Sundowner Solo $249
This thing is gross looking when on the bike... All the added padding is in the front of the seat... Huge and Bulbous... I need padding for my A## not on my D---!
This one is NOW on eBay for sale for $200 plus shipping...
#3 I just ordered the Mustang Classic $229
Awaiting its arrival...
I want to sit "IN" the bike not on top of it... It's why I bought a Wide Glide to begin with...
There simply is not enough pictures of seats from you gentlemen for me to make a good decision and I don't think the wife is happy with all these seats/money flowing out of our house...
I am enclosing the photos I have taken of the stock seat and the Regal Duke...
I did not take a photo of the Sundowner as I couldn't wait to remove the damn ugly POS...
Frustrated boys and your help would be appreciated!!!
Or should I just suck it up and keep the stock seat?
Thank you

my 2013 wide glide had a wider pillion than my 2012. not sure on the part numbers though.
Ayup

I took a different approach...

Le Pera BareBones; this is a Wide Glide, it's about the look, and about the style. I'm a skinny, long legged goof so I can get away with the BareBones and have no problems staying on it all day but I may be a rarity with that. I set it up with the passenger pillion as well even though no one ever has or ever will ride as a passenger.
It's all about the style
LOTS of people rave about the Mustang Wide Tripper Solo.
Like TinCup, though, I took a different tack. I'm 100% solo rider and hate the couch cushion look so I first tried a LePera Silhouette Gel (very similar to the Barebones). Looks good but I hated the feel regardless of comfort. I always felt unsettled on it; sliding around and constantly adjusting, wich is difficult without having mid pegs to put some of my weight on. I went even more extreme with Redtail Leather 12" and I'm pleased as a pig in ****.
The shape of the seat pan is EVERYTHING. With a properly shaped pan you don't need much padding. There are even guys running choppers with custom pans and NO padding. Perfectly comfortable.
Unfortunately we all have differnt *** shapes and dimensions. The only way to find the perfect seat is to sit on it. I suggest finding a local rider group or rally and begging other owners to test their seats. Even if it's not a Dyna, finding a basic shape that works for you can be informative enough to translate it into better decisions with available Dyna seats.
My Silhouette and Redtail:

This is the seat that I run 98% of the time. The Trippper is generally pretty comfortable and sits you down into the bike. It also looks pretty good on the bike. I also have a Sundowner 2 up that I rarely use except for passengers or maybe 300+ mile trips. It does look like I'm sitting on a life preserver and I don't care for the look at all but it is comfortable for endless miles. On the other end of the spectrum, I have a Lepara Bare Bones that I can't even think of
the last time I ran it. Great looking seat, nice low ride. It's probably the best looking seat out there. But the comfort level for me would be about an hour.
