When in the garage and cruising through the neighborhood it's nice and mellow.
Give it the goose getting on the freeway or passing or climbing a hill, she barks plenty loud for me.
IMO, you either start with a stock headpipe and free-breathing muffs. Then, if not loud enough, either replace the headpipe with a purposely designed one or do the "dig out the cat" on the stocker for more noise...not necessarily more performance...depends on build state.

That said, I leave the big noise at the track and not **** off the folks who "vote" lol.
I like to make noise just as much as the next guy but we are always being hassled due to all the open exhaust systems we insist keeps us alive because of that noise.
Consider most all these free breathing exhaust systems that would never qualify to meet noise restrictions at most race tracks now a days.
So, if it's too loud for race tracks it certainly aught to be considered too loud for most neighborhoods.

Well, speed won over. I drop in a 222 cam with exhaust. Man this thing scoots now. No more falling its face at 3500 rpms. It now rolls on to 5000 rpms with much ease and with authority. Yes I gave in. What can I say, I'm weak.

Increased torque feel, but not dyno'd?? Did it run good? no back fire pop and sounded good?

According to the HD parts catalog the Stage IV CVO with the high flow exhaust is rated at 125hp/115ftlbs. The high flow HD exhaust still has a catalytic converter but it moves the cat from the headpipe to the mufflers.
I bought my CVO Limited last fall and wanted more performance but I also wanted to stick with HD parts. So i had my dealer install the Stage IV kit (64mm TB, 117cyl/pistons, 515cam, 5.5injectors, CNC ported heads). Plus I changed the mufflers to the freer flowing SE Street Cannons. But I still had the factory Cat headpipe plus the HD epa-rated tuning map that was flashed to the bike.
I took the bike to Fuelmoto and had them swap the factory headpipe for the FM Jackpot 2/1/2 ctuned headpipe. I kept my SE Street Cannons with the new headpipe. No other physical changes to the bike. (The new headpipe fits PERFECTLY under the factory headpipe cover). I then had Jamie at Fuelmoto dyno tune the bike using my Powervision.
The result: INCREDIBLE. Eliminating the cat headpipe completely eliminated the heat from my right foot. And I mean completely gone. As you can see in the before/after dyno below, the combination of the cat-free headpipe with a proper tune dramatically increased the performance. The performances went from 113/122 to 128/128. And remember HD dyned this engine with their own hi-flow cat exhaust at 125/115.
Conclusion: a cat free headpipe with a proper engine tuning can deliver more hp, more torque and complete removal of the dreaded right foot bake off.
