I'll agree, a SHOEI, Arai, etc. would be nicer to have. I understand SNELL ratings (and I can get a much cheaper helmet that is SNELL rated - Joe Rocket R1000X), but what are the benefits of the expensive helmets if I am happy with the fit, finish, and features of the HJC?
I am asking sincerely, not arguing.
My Shoei helmet has a 5 year warranty on it. Ive seen stickers on cheap helmets that said 90 Day warranty and they're DOT approved. I couldn't believe my eyes when I read that! Makes me wonder how poor a helmet can be thats DOT approved. Its like saying something meets code for a building vs something done great. I believe the 6D brand helmets are superior to any other helmet out there in reducing brain injury from rotational force because of the isolated inner shell. Too bad it didn't fit.
if I read every study about all the data collected regarding all the things that surround our lives I'd probably never leave the house. It can be overwhelming. Oh wait, I think there's interesting stats on that being harmful, too.
Nice RK by the way. Probably the only other bike I'd like to own.

Currently I wear a modular (full-face with flip-up chinbar). I've ridden a few times with no helmet and I love the feeling enough to go without, or maybe try a half helmet. But about 10 years ago, I literally face-planted on the blacktop (long story) and was so very happy to be wearing a full-face (modular) helmet.
Then things happen to me like this past weekend on a 640+ mile ride. I had two monster, juicy bugs somehow find the perfect path around my FLHX fairing & windscreen (9"). Fortunately, I was wearing my full-face with the shield closed. Had I not been wearing at least a 3/4-helmet with shield, I would have injested, inhaled or otherwise impaled those suckers into my face. I get bugs that skip-off the top of my helmet all of the time ...but this was the first time I had a crosswind situation that was feeding the bugs right into my face. Again....I'm pretty happy to have had face protection.
Grimace I had a visual on that one. Made me laugh. Living in the north where I am the bugs are never ending. The only ones that really hurt are the dragonflies, the real big ones that only come out around the end of May to about the middle of June. They are about 3 or 4 inches long and they hurt even when they hit your shins. I don't have to worry about them now that I ride a bagger with lowers. When I had my Dyna I used to put my soft lowers on for protection when they were in season.
