Im ready to buy either the memphis gauntlet or the cafe fairing. Im looking for any input on actual wind protection. I can see the Gauntlet is higher but cant find actual dimensions anywhere and havent heard from Memphis themselves. Online reviews are not too specific. Opinions, feedback, measurement from those who actually use them in the road are all welcomed. Thanks boys.

I ran a cafe for a short time. No wind protection.
I run a gauntlet and I find it works very nicely to get the wind off my chest. I'm 5ft8 and I can get down behind the shield too and I dont notice the wind. Last few days I went out without the gauntlet and it was a very noticeable ride difference. I was hanging on in the wind so I would say it does a great job. You can also get a Laminar extension to push the wind up higher. http://www.laminarlip.com/sprtcmf.php
Cafe style fairings are designed to keep wind off your chest. You're not going to feel like you're behind a full fairing or windshield with a little piece of plastic, but when you're doing 80, you're not gettting pushed off the bike. Plus it looks f'n awesome. I'm 6'2 and my head is in clear air (no buffet) and wind on my chest is blocked. All I want on a dyna.
Im 5'10" and yes that is all im looking for. Some relief from highway speed wind. I dont do a ton of highway miles but when i do i end up with sore abs from holding myself on the bike. Id rather focus on the road than keeping my *** in the saddle. Got enough to worry about with all the fools out there driving.

The gauntlet is a little bigger than the smaller cafe fairings and I think its a very good in between style. I didnt want a full shield as I dont think they look good on the dyna's (although the memphis road warrior is a looker). Also the gauntlet took a good fall when I came off the bike and it held up with no damage other than a few scratches which I easily painted over.
You will like it, I have the quick release connectors and you can remove or add it in seconds.
Heres a front view of it on my FXDC with 8" T bars so you can get an idea of height.

Interesting. I do a lot of freeway riding and haven't noticed significant neck strain. Don't care for fairings or windshields. I wear a full face helmet.
I have the gauntlet fairing but it doesn't spend a lot of time on the bike. I'm 5'9 and notice some wind buffeting from it. It's not too bad but ruins the clean air riding experience for me if I'm wearing a half helmet. It bothers me less with my full face. It does seem to do a decent job of keeping wind off your chest so I like it for highway riding especially with a full face helmet. I use it mostly in winter with my full face and when riding to and from work which is around 25 miles of highway each way. In the summer it usually stays off unless I have a long highway trip planned. For instance for bike week I throw it on for the ride down and then take it off for the week. The detachable hardware makes it a really easy on/off.
Do a search on Tombstone fairings. Keeps the wind off my chest and face. They do a decent job for people who hate fairings. Otherwise I think the Slipstreamers are the best.
I'm the same size as you and have the Gauntlet. Does what I need it to. I've tossed around the idea of getting a laminar lip for it because I feel like the wind hits me around the middle of my head, but it's not too high on the priority list for me. I can get some measurements for you if that will help. But as everyone has said it does a good job keeping the wind off your chest, you can duck down a bit and get some more coverage if you want.
