I have been riding since I was 9 , I got my motorcycle license at 16 , I am a MSF rider coach. I am currently 44 years old and currently ride a rushmore ultra limited.I don't post much but I am not a troll.
I honestly don't understand the purpose of doo-rags and bandannas. I could understand if it was bald guys trying to keep from getting burned. (id use a helmet but thats another conversation) , but its not bald guys. Its guys with a full head of hair. I also Could understand if it was part of a MC uniform worn with a cut.
I see guys with hair wearing a bandanna and sunglasses and a tank top. What does the bandanna do?
Only today, with social media would someone publish a thread like this. Previously, if he rides he would ask his riding friends, hey, why the doo-rags. But today's rider, 44 G-Xer just found it easier to air his personal distaste. He really does not care why you might. Had he cared, keeping your helmet clear would have been enough. Maybe his riding friends would have told him about riding in 100F+ temps and putting a wet bandanna over his head and under his helmet to prevent heat stroke. But he did not ask why, he made up lame reason in an effort to put down your response even before you poste. Bald guys, tank tops. I see why he has not posted much. I label this a troll or newbie who thinks they know it all.

I'll be honest here, it's vanity. If I don't wear a rag or a baseball cap (backwards) my hair looks like this when I get off the bike.
And yes, I care what people think.
My do-rag serves a whole bunch of purposes to me.
1. When my head is freshly shaved, it makes it easier to get my helmet on.
2. It makes my helmet more comfortable.
3. It's easier to wash than the helmet liner.
4. It protects my head and the back of my neck from sunburn when I get where I'm going.
5. If it's really hot I can soak it in water to help keep cool.
If I still actually had hair, I would probably still wear one (or something similar) for reasons 2, 3, and 5. In high school I had shoulder-length hair, so when I played hockey I wore a bandanna under my helmet to keep it back and out of my face.
