Default Fairing and wind shield on Sportster

I am looking to take some pretty major trips in the future, and will be needing to think about dealing with the wind. I have a very nice bike (2003, 100th anniversary 1200, still under 500 miles on it) and am going for a minimalist, clean and classy look. I am wanting function, but without compromising the design and feel of my bike. That being said, I will allow function to prevail over form 70/30, maybe 60/40. Due to the ability of quickly disconnecting and removal, I am leaning hard towards the Memphis Shades line of fairings. http://www.memphisshades.com/harley-...ngs-for-harley I am 6'4" and already probably too big for the bike, so I know that the coverage will have to be fairly significant.
1. Has anyone tried, or does anyone currently run any of these products on their Sporty's?
2. If so, how do they look, and how do they function?
3. Any other ideas for me?
4. Any pics would be greatly appreciated!

500 miles on a 03? How does that happen? I sure would be worried about how it was stored/Sat. Not even broken in yet. Gas tank rust, sludge in motor and rust inside from condensation? Not a fan of big windshields so no help there but I will suggest a mustang wide vintage seat. Over the years I have purchased from Memphis shades, wife has one on her sporty. They make good products.

A co-worker put a inexpensive one piece clear plastic windshield/faring on his Sportster for cold season and now he say's he's not taking it off that he likes it so much
I have a Tour Glide and a Sportster , if I was to put a windshield on my Sportster I would go with the same as he did

Mustang vintage 12.5" left 14.5" right

Memphis shield left national cycle flyscreen right

I like this because it takes the hit off of my chest but no buffeting and looks good. When I ride my wife's my head bobs around. You can find a large shield that won't give you buffeting but it's not easy.

@Switchback12 I know, its crazy... I had a local shop go through it, as well as HD of Dallas, cleaned the carb, runs like new! I put 140 flawless miles on it today! Runs like a dream...

I think either a windshield or fairing with quick-release clamps will serve its function as long as it is the proper height.

I use an aftermarket fairing and an aftermarket flared fairing windshield with a fabricated mounting bracket to allow use of HD's quick-release windshield clamps....easy on-easy off. I also wear a helmet. The fairing keeps the wind off my chest.

I also used a clear HD windshield but did not like the look and did not like looking through the windshield when looking down. Perhaps it was not fitted correctly for me.

Here are couple of pics of the fab mounting brackets and hd clamps. The good thing about hd brackets/clamps is it has a safety feature where the top side of the fairing will break free from the mounting bracket if you ever fly forward into the fairing.

You also need to consider how you will be carrying stuff. Here are a couple of my fairngs and bags.

oh and don't forget a comfy seat like the mustang wide vintage solo with backrest....

Just things to think about.....good luck!

@Switchback12 I like the minimal look of the Fly Screen, how does it function? It being forward and almost vertical seems like it would too a pretty good job!
