I have long hair too. I put it in a bun ponytail thing and stuff it under a wool cap I wear under my helmet. Hair sits behind my neck but doesn't dreadlock like it does in the wind. When I get where I'm going hair come out.
If I just ponytail it it starts dreadlocking and its a mess. Always carry a extra hairtie.
I have one I use when it's colder, but not cold enough for the shemagh and Elmer Fudd hat going to and from work.
My old Security Manager at a place I worked used to ride in on his Road King in shorts and Doo Rag, all tatted up, and a diamond stud in his ear. He would go into his office and change to business casual with long sleeves, dress shoes, and take his ear stud out and look all nermal. Then change back, get on his bike and set off a bunch of car alarms on his way out of the parking lot.

Southpaw Super Glide: A Left-Hand-Drive 1979 Harley FXE Built to Fit the Rider
In my former life I was a welder. I wore one daily. For sparks and so my hair would not be black each evening. I wear one on my motorcycle whether it is my Harley or other rides to keep my helmet clean. I also wet it with water when it is over 95F to prevent heat stroke. Sure, I understand some wear it as a statement. So what! What gives when a troll posts how cool they thing they are because he saw someone dressed as a poser wearing a doo-rag. Some people need to get a life. I do not measure the worth of a man, a rider by whether he wears or does not wear a doo-rag, chaps, a pin and badge covered vest or fingerless gloves. Those who do must live very shallow lives.
I did not read the history of Doo-rags. I did not read the history of chaps, or pins, or fingerless gloves. I do what works for me and two out these four work for me. I am happy if 4 out of 4 or none out of 4 work for you.
My current doo-rag was given to me by another rider in Thompson Falls, Montana, in 2009. My ride bell was given to me outside Houston, TX complete with the Star of Texas. Some of the things we do we do because it means something to us and we don't give a crap what it means to anyone else. Sometimes you meet incredible people on the road and form lifetime friendships through simple gifts.
