My buddy quit his job and has a week before starting the next one so in order to prep for my Swiss alp tour in August, we are headed to Colorado with the wives. Gonna stay in Cripple Creek and make some loops around Friday through Sunday. Might stop and see some of the Pikes Peak action while we are up there. Bishops Castle and a few other points of interest are highlighted for our trip but the main thing is cooler air and curvy, elevated roads and some scenery.
Anyone have any must dos while we are up there? I have ridden dirt bikes all over the place up there but not my Harley and looking very much forward to it! 11 hour drive up from Fort Worth leaving around 9 am Thursday( I am at work finishing up my shift tonight too, guess my buddy will be doing most of the driving). Yes, we are trailering to make the most of our riding while there. we have ridden across Texas dozens of times...
Since it appears you are doing out and back from Cripple Creek, I will suggest maybe Canon City and the Royal Gorge. Aspen via Independence Pass (mountain riding skills OK?)Or skip over to Gunnison and see Blue Mesa and the Black Canyon. Basically anything West of you is a good start.
Want me to be more specific, let me know a few things about your trip time frame, likes and your riding style and we will find you something jaw dropping.
We stayed off the gravel even though both of us are expert level dirt bikers. Wanted the girls to have some fun. We did the Canon City loop after leaving the back way out of Cripple Creek( hiway 11 and 9) and then went down to see the Bishop Castle. Ol Crazy castle man was there on Friday in his full glory! The castle was cool but his welding skills are sketchy. Spent one day down in Manitou Springs and walked partway up the Incline. too hot to do the whole thing and it was crowded as heck. Went out to Buena Vista and rode up Cottonwood and made several stops along the creek on the way down just seeing cool stuff. Rode out to deckers an the remnants of the fire are evident for sure. 24 hiway was busy and we elected to stay off of it as much as we could. Got 550 miles of riding in, gambled some, lost 60 bucks one day and came home even the next and got our free drink on. we walked from our apartment to town and enjoyed he burros, the gray fox and the deer in town.
Here are a few shots of the many we took. I had some great gopro shots but deleted the dang pictures by mistake after making a small slideshow. My wide likes me wearing the big orange sweatshirt so she can spot me when i wonder off.
