This actually happened to my group yesterday.

We were on our way home from a weekend trip up to a lake resort. At a red light, an enduro bike ended up in the middle of our group. He rode with us for 30 miles or so. Rode safe, stayed in formation then when we turned off to make a stop, he just kept going. Nobody in my 7 bike group said a word about it.

Don't know why anyone would think that's lame or what the big deal is.

During the time that the tag-along hung with us, dozens of cars and trucks passed us and we passed dozens of cars and trucks. None of them hung with us for 20 miles, so he had other options than to hang with us for that time.

But he: rode on the left side of the lane, changed lanes to pass with us, sped up when we did, slowed with us. He did this for about 20 miles and then took his exit. We never spoke, never saw his face.

When my friend and I stopped, he made a comment about how lame the guy was.. I didn't mind.

What are your thoughts? Have any of you experienced this? (or done this?)
As someone who tours solo almost exclusively I have never seen it as being part of the group but I have found myself "tagging alone" with other groups by accident.

I normally ride in the opposite side of the lane as the bike in front of me as a reflex. As we all know, this leaves the most stopping distance in front of your bike. I also let other bikers act as the "rabbit" going the fastest. I hang back a ways in case a trooper wants to meet his quota.

No, We are not a brotherhood.
This is the guy that sees you broke down on the side of the road and just keeps going.

You're new around here, so you'll get a pass.

Also, you don't know what or who you're talking about.

I group of 2 bikes was riding up FM249 near Magnolia a few months ago and 2 separate riders joined in. The first bike slowed and went into a left turn and the rear bike ended up hitting them. The couple on the bike that turned were injured and the woman lost her leg from the knee. The rear rider that hit them lost his life due to severe head trauma.

So, I don't like folks joining me that I do not know. If they want to keep way back then so be it, it's a free country but as soon as they get close I will pull off the road and get them clear ASAP. There are just too many novice riders out there and you never know until it's too late.

I heard it can technically void your warranty if he wasn't a HOG member.

If I am the "Stranger", I do and would want to ride with others that I may come across just so that I can not be "alone". LOL! I mind my own business and I am a safe and courteous rider so I don't believe I am bothering anyone.
