Roadster XL1200CX first registered September 2016. Completely standard.
I bought it 3 weeks ago with 1,050 miles and put 350 miles on it before taking it to the Dyno.
It rides and runs nicely and i'm very happy with it but it doesn't seem quite as rapid as the demo bikes I'd ridden, hence the trip to the Dyno.
It's making at the rear wheel 55 HP and 61 lb ft torque. From what i've found on the net, other owners have reported about 65 HP and 70 lb ft from their standard bikes.
Where's my power gone?
Are there any adjustments or checks I should make to ensure everything is running optimally ?
Or have I just bought a "Friday afternoon" bike ?
Sportsters are measured with ponies, not horses. They may have set the Dyno wrong.
Any mods to the bike? Stage 1? Stage 1 plus a tune on computer may be in order. Stock torque should be 73 to 76 ft-lbs so something seems off unless someone can comment on the engine v. rear wheel spec.
I plan to stage 1 it but compared to other Roadster owners who've Dyno'd their unmodified bikes I appear to be starting from a 10 HP disadvantage.
I'd like to try and confirm everything is running and adjusted as it should be before modifying it with a stage 1.
What combination of things could result in my missing power? Spark plug gaps? Belt adjustment ? Would it be worth taking it to my dealer to confirm it's running the correct fuel map even?
First mistake is getting it dyno'd a lot of guys here have had crappy dyno tunes. Search around and get ya some good pipes then a free flowing A/C. Did ya get you a tuner when you got it dyno'd? If not get you a power vision.
could have been any number of factors. don't sweat it. bikes not even broken in yet. ride on have fun while you wallet is still fat... that's gonna change.
I have learned that if you treat three tanks of gas every 1,500 miles with Techron additive it will make a noticeable improvement in performance. One bottle will treat about 21 gallons.
It keeps the injectors clean and upper engine parts. I was surprised how quickly the injectors lost peak performance.
