Skip the vest. Get a heated jacket.
With a heated vest and gloves, you'd think fingers plus core, is happy.
Having the jacket, instead of the vest, makes it happier.
I've ridden with heated socks, and that's happiest.
Watch your Amperage draw. Had to bump-start an old Honda 1100, after running heated gear and stopping for lunch (it's fun as Hell watching a couple of your Harley-riding friends push a Honda, looking in your rear-view mirror, laughing, while sitting in a Honda's saddle).
Having individual on/off switches, I could alternate gloves and socks for the ride home, and the battery had enough juice to start the bike after rest stops (I might have been pushing it by myself, after the first episode).
Charging output on newer bikes is decades better, but check your specs.
congrats on moving over to the sporty. did you get some gloves yet?
what did you get. like it better of over your 500?
The other bike was actually a 750 with a power package upgrade. I really loved her, but was hit by another motorcyclist up in the Blue Ridge last year and lost her. I got a 1200L ... she's chromed out and so beautiful, but yes, she's definitely a lot more bike than the 750. After not riding for a year, it's time to get back up on the iron horse.
Lady Esbee... because she's a sexy bitch!

Glad you walked away from the incident and are willing to get back on the horse. enjoy!

Finally recieved the RSD 12" apes for my 72 that I've been waiting on for weeks as I drooled over all of the other parts just sitting there. Time to chrome out the handlebars.

I run the same setup but in black. I'm very happy with the overall setup, I'm sure you will be too.
