The Springer front end is heavy even without a shock. There are lots of hardtail kits available, Low Brow Customs is a start.

That's pretty much it.
I love my bagger and won't ever get rid of it. But I also miss having something smaller and more nimble to ride around town.
The problem I had with the FXR was it was just too important of a bike. Just seemed wrong to tear it apart with a project like this. That thing was 100% original, and it felt like it deserved to stay that way. Or a least if someone was going to bugger it up, that someone wouldn't be me.

That's part of what motivates me on this. I like the old-school tech, but more than that, I like the idea of having a bike that is demanding. I like the idea of knowing that every time it starts, the reason it started is because I tuned/timed/gapped/kicked it just right.
This is the frame I'm using: Paughco SLP120. What I like about it is the single downtube design.
There's no mount for the front cylinder head on that frame. Not sure how important that is. Dr.Linda's bike once lost a bolt from there, so it's definitely used.
My friend drag raced top fuel Sportsters. He always said "If you want to go fast, you need 4 cams."
The real question is are you gonna use the same helpers with this project as you used for the kitchen remodel??????

Got a little tiny bit done this morning.
The PO was very into cheap POS "chrome" (half are chrome covered plastic) doo-dads. Pulled them off.
The plugs looked like crap. Might be original.
So, new plugs and fresh engine oil, put some air in the tires, and decided to go ahead and buy a battery. Gonna be a few weeks before the frame gets here so I may as well get some miles on this thing while the weather holds.

Man I'm 5'5" and I have yet to find a sporty that is comfortable to ride....How in the hell does your tall *** even come close to fitting on one of those under grown bikes??????????
