Check the positions of the petcock. I seem to recall something odd about mine and thinking I was on Main and in fact was on reserve this causing the exact condition you described.
I ultimately ended up with a pingel on a CCI tank and dash. I think that CCI tank held around 4 gallons and had a nice shape to it. It was a one piece tank that had the traditional shape of the two piece and had a deep tunnel that let it sit lower on the frame. I wish I had pictures of that bike.
THC, that's what we were talking about the other day. There are two (NPT, 1/4") outlets and no crossover.
I've got a couple of 'no-reserve' petcocks for this. I'll run one side on, and leave the other off. In that way, the bottom of the off side of the tank becomes the reserve.
I'm late to this party, but I totally understand missing something 'lighter, smaller, nimbler' than a bagger for around town. Seems I opt to take the pickup truck a lot of times rather than the FLHS.
My son's first Harley was a 883R, he now rolls a 1999 FLHT.
The enormous stock air filter cover on this thing will just not do for a build like this. I looked around at various new cover options, but by the time it was all said and done, I'd have been half way to the cost of this S&S anyway. Decided to go all the way.
Added bonus is I won't have to listen to THC constantly tell me to get an S&S anymore!!!
That should work well on a 1200. It sucked on an 883. Way too big. Although the later versions let you change out the air bleed so that is supposed to help.
