I know exactly what you are talking about with that bridge. I was raised in Pasadena back in the Urban Cowboy days. Been over that rascal plenty of times. I think the intimidation factor for me has something to with it only being two lanes in each direction with the sense of no where to go but into a retaining wall on each side. Even when the wind isn't blowing its a weird feeling.
One of the reasons that I bought my windshield from Klock Works was that they advertised that their windshields lessened the lift numbers of the batwing fairing in the wind tunnel.
At least the bridge didn't have the steel grating, or at least I hope not.
Add that in with strong winds, and that a real handful!
I HATE that stuff, slicker than snot when it's wet.

I ride over the Sam Houston Tollway Ship Channel Bridge to work and back, and today the wind had the pucker factor maxed out!
... so i slowed, ..When the wind is from the side i lean that way to compensate, but this was head wind, I leaned forward and tried to relax as stiffing my arms seemed to make the shaking worse, and it worked out.
.
Sounds like you did the correct thing....as you made it to the other side.
Like you did..try to relax, loosen up a bit, let the bike jiggle and wiggle but keep her overall on a straight path. She's gonna try to do some involuntary lane changes on ya ..don't lock up and do a death grip, keep sorta loose like you did...you'll make it (and ya did!)
Hey Slowmo, you live in the area, do you know of any web site that gives wind advisory's for the Fred Hartman Bridge?
Best I have ever found is https://www.wunderground.com/MAR/buoy/MGPT2.html it's a buoy on the water below so it's not usually correct 200" above the water surface. I know there is a weather station at the midpoint of the bridge but I've never been able to find it anywhere.
