Thanks, veritas. I tried to get that pesky sign out of the way...I was working in a limited spot: the hedges were blocking most of the lake view I wanted in the shot. Then I was contending with the sun which was quite sharp.

I got a shot in where the windshield is blocking that sign for the most part, but I didn't care for the angle.

I have a Nikon DSLR, that I can now carry as this new-to-me bike has saddelbags! Gotta try some shots with that puppy. Especially living only 20 miles from the beach, I can get some potentially nice shots over there. Maybe I'll try for this weekend.

BTW, I looked at your smugmug album. Great action shots! I wondered though in the photo with the orange Harley tank, why you decided to take it of the left side where the large shadow was cast by the fuel gauge. Why not the right side? (Or even turning the bike around 180* if you wanted the sun which looks like is sort of high up and in front of the subject?)

Unfortunately that pic was taken at a dealership during an event (lunch after a morning ride with about 100 other bikes), so the bike couldn't be moved as it was a display model. Also, if you notice on the shot of the whole bike there is a ten foot drop on the other side of the bike so shooting from that side was impossible. That and the other "no no" was that I was shooting at around 12:30 so the whole lighting was not optimal. Unfortunately, event shooting messes with being able to control all of the necessarily elements, so you kinda get what you get and make the most of it.

Just refer back to the OP and the intent of this particular thread. There's already a thread available for random pics of Dynas.

This thread is about sharing quality photos and learning how to improve by seeing what others do.

Maybe try the same location, but at the time of day where you aren't shooting into the sun. Have the sun to your back, that way it illuminates the bike. Another technique, even using this same angle and time of day would be to have a helper hold a reflector in order to bounce some light back at the bike. This is where I use that cheap windshield sun reflector. But that would help eliminate some of those harsh shadows.

Really need to get in the habit of taking pictures in landscape...

This one would have come out better had that RK and my helmet not been in the picture...
