Of course lowering the bike helps as well.
You can see form my pic that my 1997 has four piston caliper. What I did was eBay a swing arm and caliper, but then reused my wheel, axle, rotor and spacers. People will tell you the rotor will not work, it has been there for over 10 years and stops great. But you could keep going and get the newer wheel, rotor and pulley. It should all bolt up. I do not remember the years, they went from a standard diameter axle to a metric size, stay away from the metric size and you will be OK.
The pulley at the transmission does not change, the belt is much smaller stock or modified. But you still need to pull the inner primary to change the belt.
For me though, I would go to a good dealership. The parts guys usually keep the older "Parts and Accessory" books, see if they have one from the early 2000's. If you can find the kit and the part # now you have something to search for either via the MoCo or the Bay. My guy did a dealer search and found one in Iowa, they shipped it to him and we were good.
I wish I had more for you, I myself have not been able to find the part # again, but I am damn sure it exists. Pic of the other side so you can see the belt:

Stock front pulley. Rear pulley was custom made. No problems with the 3/4" pulley.
Tried using the pulley for the 1 1/8" belt when I had a 150, but the belt rubbed on the rear tire at times and eventually got "lost."
You can get aftermarket 4-piston rear brake caliper...no need for a new swing arm, unless you want to drop weight and they look cool.
