If you get a pre-2007 make sure the cam tensioner shoes have been replaced, if not then budget for it. The carbs work fine, however as you know the convenience of EFI is hard to beat.

I find absolutely nothing more convenient about EFI.
You can avoid cam chains altogether by going with an Evo,
Same boat!! I tried to sell my 13 RG and no luck without loosing my a$$ so I decided to keep it and start looking for a nice used Heritage, Well do not go to a dealer if they have one because I made the mistake of riding an 18 then a 15 and I'm hooked on the 18!!! Came home and talking with the wife and if they get their number right I will bring one home!!!! Love the motor, power and rides so good!!

Reason: spelling
Really enjoyed the good vibrations of the solidly mounted pre internally balanced Evo powered Heritage I had back in the '90's, felt like a Harley not a Honda like the internally balanced TC88, 103's and M8 ones.
On the other hand I like having cruise control. ABS brakes, a six speed tranny, a wider 150 over the 130 rear tire that the Evo's and the TC88's had.
I don't care for the blacked out engines, wheels, forks, and etc. on the 18's, after a few years the black surfaces will really show scratches, chips, stains, imperfections etc. Maybe in 19 HD will smarten up and bring back some chrome Heritages.

I agree with the 07 or later. My 07 is approaching 30K mi. and has run great, with only regular maintenance required. The TC96 has all the pull I need and I like the EFI with 6 speed trans.
The more I ride tho 03 Heritage . The more I forget how smooth they were. One nice thing with the 5 speed is they are quite and shift like butter . I also like sitting lower in the saddle.
Love my 2000 TC 88. The looks haven’t changed much over the years so the decision is what motor/trans you want. Other than that look for one with low one owner miles...they are out there.
I got to talk to a lady that bought an 03 Heritage brand new. Has a little over 100 thousand miles on it . She has run Amsoil from the 1st oil change. Only put 1 clutch .rest of motor has never been touched. I have a freind that has a 15 street glide with a little over 50 thousand on it hasn't been touched either . I think you hear only about a few that have had problems more . Then from the many that don't.
