I bought a gloss black powder coated console from eBay. Off the bike it looks great, on the bike, against my vivid black shiny tank, it looks to orange pealed. - not bad mind you, but just not a smooth and shiny.
I have zero experience with powder coatings, and am wondering if it can be wet sanded and polished like clear coat for a glass smooth finish.
Ive had a few parts that had some of the orange peel effect but usually it was only visible from the certain angles. I wondered if there was a way to work it out but I dont know if there is. Ive had to sand areas of powdercoated parts to get them to fit back up correctly and its not hard to get past the glossy finish. Underneath, the powdercoat was very milky in sheen. Looked like a hardened Play-Doh.
powder coating is a lot like painting. You have to have someone that knows what they are doing applying it. I have seen it orange peeled and put on too thick in spots and too thin in others.
i just got done with powder.... everything in the pic for $275 guy did a great job.....and yea u need to know what youre doing... ive have orange peel and bubbles in the past
Not my bike either but maybe it's my eyes getting old but I don't see amf on the derby but looks like amc? Still i don't have a guess what that means but I really like that seat and the bikes pretty nice too
