Cvaria's 2007 883 Standard (XLCN): Consolidated Thread of Nonsense (Working)
The destructions say "Check extension screw for proper tightness and retorque if needed, any time an oil filter is removed from
the sandwich adapter." 20 lb-ft (27.1 Nm)
i'll see what Marvin says. i'll try the on you posted if they say it's better. that way, i can get rid of the rubber on the anti-rotation device. seems like a good opportunity to switch to black braided lines.
From the destructions:
APPLICATION NOTE: Sportster models
Some Sportster models may require rotating the mounting
of the 4700 offset oil filter adapter 180 degrees, placing
the hoses above the filter
In these installations, the anti-rotation device is not required

" Naturally-open oil by-pass and built-in thermostatic oil valve allows vehicle to warm up to operating temperature before sending oil through to an oil cooler.
Self-contained thermostatic oil valve with pressure-relief function"
Found this with thermostat info: And price of $110.00

This plate has a 3/4-16 filter thread and a 2 1/2 inch O-ring diameter. The built-in thermostat allows cold oil to bypass your oil cooler. When the oil temperature reaches 180°F / 82°C (+/- 10°F or +/- 3°C), the thermostat closes to force all of the oil to go through the cooler.
The thickness of the plate is 1 inch so be sure to check for filter clearance.

out of curiosity, and for future reference that I hopefully won't need... How does one go about cleaning up all of that oil out of nooks and crannies??
A degreaser like simple green, rags, and qtips. Electrical contact cleaner on the gizmos. Not fun.

He said there was red loctitite on the threaded portion, the nipple as he called it, originally. He said that what happened should not have happened and that in 20 years, I'm the only person (knuckle head) to have experienced the filter rocket launcher. He said that the tension created by the filter being tightened on to the adapter should be pulling on the nipple and keep it locked in place.
i told him it was more than likely my fault and i thought the high rev/vibes probably caused it. He He basically said to hel l with that and said he'd send out a replacement 4700. He added that since i had reset the adapter nipple without thouroughly degreasing the adapter threads, it could potentially happen again and it would be best to replace it.
I asked him if the 4550 would be better and told him about the anti-rotation device digging into the case. He said that the 4550 was new (why we hadnt seen it before) and less complicated than the big twin designed 4700. He added that it had been used in race applications. He opted to send the 4550 and asked that i send back the failed 4700.
Marvin went above and beyond. This is why i deal with jagg. They support hel l out of customers. Marvin knows me and knows how long ago i bought the 4700. He sold it to me. Customer for life.

The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
However, it appears to be cast instead of billet like the 4700.
It just needs to be black!
