On the current bike, I've had two...stock, and the V&H Ovals. After getting the bike, I asked people about their exhaust systems, so had a good idea going into the purchase of exactly what I was looking for. Worked for me.
Rinehart True Duals w/ performance baffle (on RKC & SG)
Supertrapp Supermegs 2-1 (on SG)
Currently: D&D FatCat 2-1 w/ quiet baffle (on SG)
Liked all of 'em with the exception of the Longshots. The Fatcats are the fastest from 0-60 mph. The RTD's are the best when rolling on the power at 60 mph and above.
Only three in 20 years:
1. Screamin Eagle turnout slip-ons - ditched them after my first trip to Sturgis when I could hardly hear if my bike started or not.
2. RevTech 2" slash cut drag pipes - actually performed and sounded great.
3. Vance & Hines Big Radius - went for more of a look when putting my ride back together, better 'n ever, after my '04 crash. Best looking pipe out there, sounds and performs great.
Bought a set of SE (the quiet ones) from a member here a few weeks after I got the bike (07 Dyna). Just a tad louder than stock. I got a great deal on them, and plan to keep them for a long while. My wife has Cycle Shacks on her 883. She is loud enough for the both of us. Both bikes have a stage one done to them.
I wanted too improve what the V Twin is good for (low end torque), so I researched all the 2 into 1 pipes, also listened to them in person except the D&D FatCat. At the time not too many bikes with the FatCat so out of all the bike events and shows that I went to, I never saw one. I'm on my third set of pipes. First set stock pipes, second set D&D FatCat with the standard baffle (Crashed), third set D&D FatCat with the quiet baffle.
Thunderheader but broke 4 different exhaust studs on my Dyna WIde Glide. Forget the rubber-mounted engine-Thunderheader combination. V&H Big Radius now and I like them - a lot.
Over the years lots and lots. For me the bottom line is the correct tune for the motor, then it is the sound. If sacrificing a little power for sound, so be it.
