I for one, don't appreciate the condescending tone I get from most of the "parts guys" I speak to. I've been a mechanic for 25+ years (autos and semis) so know my way around machinery (and have a garage full of tools most mechanics would have no idea what for). I take great pride in fitting OEM parts to applications that "won't work". Most guys just give you that "I can't be bothered with you" look (especially if you mention you own something other than a Harley)

Let me get this straight, do you want the customer to come in with part numbers in hand or their model and a description of what they want?
What is it exactly, you think your job is?

I get a 20% discount at the dealer I bought my bike from which is 3hrs away, I usually have them UPS the parts to my house (which opens a whole 'nuder can-o-worms) my local dealer couldn't be bothered to get the bike I wanted, and their parts guys sound a lot like you.

Keep up the "good" work, you'll soon find yourself being replaced by a computer.

I thought that all the summer help was in the service department, ones around here most of the time can't even put a seat back on like it should be.Hell,Iwas comming home from my first service going around a curve and all of a sudden it felt like I was starting to spin in an office chair.didn'teven hook up front of the seat.Happened once again but I caught it that time.I do all my own stuff now but do need a part sometimes.Never had much of a problem with the parts department. The popcorn and coffee are the real deal!!

All I want to know is, why H-D doesn't offer a set of replacement slash cut tips for a pair of stock '09 Road Glide Screamin' Eagle mufflers. They have thought of everything else to get our money. Why not one more.

The issue I have is whatever is not in stock has to be paid for in advance and they call when in. If it`s not what I want or like - tough luck - at least when ordering online you can return it - or exchange it - not at the dealership.

This is not a parts man issue I guess - they are just following store policy but if the stores want customer loyality the should have the parts in stock or a return policy.

Case in point - I want a one up seat - the dealer won`t bring one in unless I pay for it and I have to take it - what if I`m not comfortable on it. Heck - the dealer can return it to HD for a credit.

Look up part numbers from the first three links below, check eBay or order from Zanotti's or Chicago Harley Davidson. (Zanotti's and Chicago Harley Davidson give at least 20% off parts and accessories including aftermarket parts.)

Original Part Numbers (Parts that originally came on your bike):
http://partsfinder.onlinemicrofiche....m_oem/hdmc.asp
Find your year, model, part, then put a 1 in the qty box of the item or items that you want the part number of, then click on "add items to parts list", then click on "send to cart" to get the part number.

Genuine Motor Accessories Part Numbers (chrome, etc.):
http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/g...bmLocale=en_US

Motor Clothes Merchandise Part Numbers (jackets, boots, etc.):
http://www.harley-davidson.com/mcm/m...bmLocale=en_US

Add /_ _ _ _ for size of an article of clothing after the part number when doing a search on Zanotti's or Chicago Harley Davidson's website's?

small........................./000S
medium..................../000M
large........................./000L
xlarge......................./002L
xxlarge...................../022L

000's are zero's not letters

The parts guys (and woman) at the local shop are great! They know what they don't know and never pretend to know what they don't!

I have had but one bad experience with an HD parts guy. He just did not know how to use the parts book and how to print instructions showing "service" parts. He was gone after a couple of months. So was I because I found a better shop!
