Here are some better pics of the scoot....straight forward swap. I used factory gauges and wiring, only had to lengthen the wire for the trip reset and reposition the indicator lights. Bought new sending unit and gas gauge. Had to change the plug end to go back the -99 plug style for the power wires for the gas sending unit.
Congrats Rene ... you got a painter there on station to replicate your 100th anniversary paint job ...? Or ... time to go with a one-off custom (or DIY) paint job ...?

Not sure which way to go yet .... professional painting & striping of the tank shouldn't be a problem: a few hours per week I work for a good friend of mine who runs an auto body repair- & paint shop for Audi, VW, Skoda & Seat:
For now I tend to stay in the vivid black & chrome combination; found this which could offer a nice solution:
I came across this thread today. I hope everything is going fine with your project. I'm posting this to let everyone know that's thinking about this conversion, the WG tank swap is another way to go. I was thinking about this Dyna Low conversion on my 04. It came out to be to much $$$.
I purchased Richards WG tank (one of your earlier posters) because it already had the speedo and tach combo and custom gas cap and fuel gauge. I taught going with his tank I would save some money.
I had to buy a new speedo because I wanted my mileage that's on my old speedo. I couldn't do that with the new/used one on the WG tank. HD wont change mileage on used speedos.
So far I had the chrome dash powder coated matte black by, The Powder Pro.
I stripped the tank and found some dents that were repaired. The dents might have been done at the factory or dealer before delivery of the bike. I removed the old filler and applied new to the dents and now it's ready for paint.
The scoot will be all black when done. I will start a new Thread with photos of this winter project.
Hi there FXD2003Rider! How is your FXDL tank swap proceeding? I have read about your project and I have the same thought on my own bike.
Still in the phase of collecting some parts. As I do not want to have down time until the end of November, serious work will be done during Dec - March.
Befor I start taking off my stock tank, I'm gonna check if the tacho works; what I have found out from the parts manual, the tacho/speedo set I have will be plug and play....
Have to check the fuel sender unit as well....
Not shure what to do with the "idiot lights" right now...forum member MarksBOB sent me some info on the led's he mounted to his console; looking into this as a possible solution to get them off the speedo/handlebar clamp.
As to the paint job, I'm waiting for a response in this thread:

Thanks for sharing this info with us, Tom!
Anxious to see the results of your work when you've finished this project.
